Pastels for the Win (Ter)

Hello friends!

I had a wonderful day off (thanks to all the past presidents)-work holiday. But tomorrow I go back to work πŸ™ I wish I could figure out a way to get paid and NOT work. I haven’t figured that out yet πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Anyway! It’s still WINTER and one way I cheer myself up is through fashion; specifically fashion that defies winter!

When you think of Winter, do you think of darker days, cold weather, snow, and slick roads? Well I do too, and so I think it’s fun to play opposite game and switch to something opposite of all that which in this case is PASTELS! Pastels are usually reserved for spring or weddings right?? Not anymore!

I found this awesome mint green faux fur jacket on clearance at Target, combined with these cute mint Nike’s from JCPenney; then I added white just to be feisty! White jeans (also JCPenney) and a pastel striped “Hello” sweater I accidentally snagged from Walmart! (Score!)

Isn’t this the perfect attitude when facing winter?? Gimme all you got, I’m not scared… yep that’s what we’ve got to do to get through- chin up and show some attitude 😊

Faux Fur Fun

Hello friends and welcome!

It’s starting to get brrrrrr cold here (there was a bitter wind blowing today-went right through me) and I wanted to share how fun faux fur can be and stay warm at the same time! Score! Plus it’s so trendy right now which is a big bonus!

First I have my new leopard faux fur coat that I’ve blogged about before (amazingly enough it’s also in the new copy of InStyle magazine (with Jlo on the cover) so I thought myself soooo on trend cause I already have this lovely coat from Target! Yep Target! (Evil laugh πŸ˜† because I foiled the dastardly enemies luring me to pay heinous prices for clothes!)

Last year I also had a sweet snag of a red faux fur coat from H&M before it totally sold out! I think it was a wee bit more than my Target coat but not much and the color is so pretty-it looks very luxe.

The year before last year I found a black coat with faux fur around the hood (I think it was 50% off) at Target. I have three faux fur vests- two from TJMaxx and one 50% off from Cabi (one is tan, one black, and one is a combination of black/gray/dark blue) I used to have a white one but I have it away (never get rid of special items like this BTW πŸ˜‚) and there is a pink one at JCPenney that has my πŸ‘!

About 18 years ago I had a favorite black leopard sweater with black faux fur on cuffs and collar and that was one of my first faux fur forays from Kmart(YES Kmart) – (I’m trying to think of as many applicable “F” words as I can πŸ˜‚- I’m in a silly mood!)

Anyway!! Don’t be afraid of wearing something a little bold! Find yourself a little bit or a lot of faux fur and see how much attitude you develop!

Hitting Snooze

Good morning Friends!

My alarm went off at 6am this morning. I set it early because there is a winter storm predicted, I need to wash my hair, I have a client at 9am, and I am driving 40 minutes north to work. Six am seemed a reasonable time until it actually happened.

I hit snooze four times….four! Each time I deducted important things on my list, like

1. washing my hair- nope not gonna do it

2. Taking a shower- I wasn’t sweaty yesterday…I can just sponge bath

3. Putting my hair in a bun is faster right?? I don’t need my hair down (really, let’s be honest…long hair girls have it so easy. I can wear a hat, put my hair in a bun, wear braids (that is even trendy) IT’S SO EASY TO CONCEAL DIRTY HAIR IF YOUR HAIR IS LONG! When I had short hair you bet I always did my hair…there’s no such thing as dirty short hair, you just can’t hide stuff like that.

So I didn’t actually get out of bed til 6:30….and adding together all of my deductions…I was ready in record time! (And I even wore something cute, pics are below! I love my leopard coat with my cute little gingham bag!) Score! Which is a good thing because it’s WINTER AGAIN.

Yes Tuesday was 70 degrees but today is a blizzard and it took me 75 minutes to get to work…slush on the road and low visibility….ahhhh this is Utah in the winter. The crazy thing is weather will be like this (cold/snowy and then 70) until around the end of May and then BAM it’s 95…Utah does not have transitions in weather….makes me want to move to South Carolina or California but then I would really miss the mountains.

Anyway, happy blizzard/snooze Thursday!

White in Winter?

Hello friends!

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend! I have had a lovely Saturday! I really adore sleeping and not using an alarm to wake. It’s so heavenly 😍 Saturday and Sunday are made for me!

I thought I would share my love for white today! I found a beautiful white coat on clearance at Express a couple weeks ago -40% off the already 40% off. It was the last one and perfect fit (what are the chances right?) it was waiting for me πŸ˜‰

All my life I’ve heard this rule: No white after Labor Day. I have more white hue clothing now than I’ve ever had in my life but I’ve always had a great pair of white jeans! They really go with everything! I had one pair forever that I washed all the time and they always looked perfect! I wore them out LOL.

So I’ve always wore white fairly regularly and as I’ve aged I’ve kind of been a rebel in regards to what is “normal” and “appropriate” for a woman my age so when I hear someone say don’t wear white- I really go out of my way to do just that! LOL

I thought I would share some of my white looks this week in the middle of January! I think you will see that Winter White is very pretty and you might want to snag more white for yourself!

The Blustery Day

Hello Friends!

Do you all remember Winnie the Pooh and The Blustery Day?? Well that’s how today feels to me! It’s windy and rainy and snow is falling in the mountains (kind of odd for Utah because there should be snow in the valley’s too) and it reminds me of “The Blustery Day” LOL.

Blustery day’s sure make for the best pictures though, it seems to bring out the colors of what I’m wearing and today is no exception although I’m wearing a lack of color along with all colors. (I learned that in art class a long time ago-white is no color and black is all colors mixed together).

I’ve discovered through the years that when my hair was platinum, darker colored hats looked really good on my head. Now that my hair is dark, lighter color hats look good. It’s the contrast that makes things pop.

My son spent two years in Moscow Russia on an LDS mission and brought me back this black fur hat which is gorgeous although hard to see now that I have dark hair. It looked great with my platinum hair (I’m enclosing a picture).

Today I wore my patterned embossed pants and striped/ruffled shirt both by Target along with my white coat (on clearance!) by Express and a cute pom pom beanie I snagged at Kohl’s. I love the contrast of the black and white along with stripes and patterns. This is a fun look for me and to be honest was somewhat hesitant at first in getting the coat cause it’s kind of trendy but who am I to resist trends?? I’ve found I really like my white coat (and it’s super warm, so out in the blustery day, I was cozy).

I hope you all have a great Wednesday (hump day)! You can make it through the week! Stay warm wherever you are, beware of the Blustery Day’s! πŸ™‚

Happy New Year -be prepared to battle January

Happy 2018! Wow the years seem to fly by don’t they? I remember being young (high school) and always wished time to go by faster…now that I’m not in high school, time seems to go by too fast.

Take for instance the holidays…I just love the holidays (and time off work) and here we are in January….not my favorite month in my whole life! LOL EVER NEVER has January been my favorite month. Granted I live in a typically cold climate in January ALL MY LIFE, so maybe that has something to do with it. Maybe if I lived in Florida I would be more friendly with January and not give it so much CRAP! Bahahaha!

This January I’m going on vacation in a couple weeks, so I hope to cut these January blues off at the knees! Haha…I guess that sounds a little violent? It’s a battle people, one I’m going to win!

I worked out this morning which was a total win cause I didn’t want to get up and then to show my determination…I’m in battle fatigues….(not to offend veterans) I’m battling my frustration with it being January and the January blahs….I’m wearing my camo jacket by OldNavy, studded jeans by Gap, and sweater by H&M….this way I figure I’m prepared to fight hard! I always normally have a cheery attitude but if I don’t some days, I need to prepare and be strong and that way I weather the hard times.

Check out my battle garb below! And for anyone else feeling the same as we head into January…you are not alone!!

Getting a good picture

Hello Friends!

I have a quandary…how to I continue to get good pictures (lighting, interesting background, variety) in the winter? ….

I’ve tried numerous settings close to my work locations, cause ya know the paying job comes first πŸ™‚

One afternoon on my lunch break, I stopped at a lovely area next to a business park (it has a little stream and two pretty bridges) to take some pictures, and the landscaping company sat on their mowers and watched me the whole time I was there. Granted they were also there doing their job so I can’t fault them. It just felt awkward….just a little

Yesterday I thought to go to a local river trail that I frequent in the summer, it’s so beautiful. There were actually a lot of ducks on the river and even though foliage is somewhat dried up, it’s still very pretty this time of year. The only drawback is the temperature…17 degrees. That’s kind of a deterrent for me and for a lot of other people too. The trailhead was empty…and I’m out there propping up my phone/camera tripod on a big rock next to the river LOL and it is brutal cold…it could be worse. This time last year it was below zero…so yesterday was balmy compared to last year. But I have to get a picture of these awesome jeans! My whole outfit looks so cute together! It’s a studded tough girl look, I love it.

As I was finishing taking pictures, I saw someone walking up the trail toward me…a guy with a hood over his head….I have a very active imagination. Those that know me will attest to this! I hurried out of there cause I got kind of a sketchy feeling and my imagination is running wild, thinking I would be a murder victim by the river and it was lucky I left in time…my mind goes on like this sometimes…

In October, I watched the second season of “Stranger Things” and freaked myself out. One time home alone watching episodes, I happened to see someone post a picture (on Facebook) of a werewolf creeping up someone’s stairs! Obviously this is a gif and it’s not real, but I soon turned on all the lights in the house and really was very wary going down my stairs! Me and my imagination could start a war…seriously…

So what are the funniest/weirdest things you’ve ever done to get a good picture??? Check mine out below πŸ™‚

Super high rise embellished jeans

Shop your closet!!

Happy Tuesday Friends!

I love finding new ways to wear my clothes. I don’t like to wear the same thing every day but at the same time, it is not reasonable for me to buy something new to wear every day! I’m sure others know what I mean πŸ™‚ So I just love when I’m looking at my closet and some new combination pops into my mind.

I had this happen today! I have a wonderful, colorful, pair of floral pants that I snagged on clearance from Loft early last spring. They have such a vibrant background color (it’s kind of a jeweled blue) with sea green vines and rose and gold flowers…it’s one of my favorite patterns but I’ve only wore these in warm weather. The cuff of the pants is shorter (normally paired with fun heels or flips) but I paired these pants with my burgundy sueded booties-DSW, my gray ruffle sleeve sweater from Target-WhoWhatWear, and my new Betsy Johnson pendant I snagged from TJMAXX. The pants are so vibrant, it’s sort of a holiday look! Score!

I love this pendant and finding another way to wear it just puts me in a splendid mood, which really helps out my week cause let’s be honest…it’s only Tuesday…the work week is just beginning and I need a little help to move it along typically. I don’t think I’m the only one in this boat either! Mondays and Tuesdays are a challenge right? So have some fun and shop your closet! Find new ways to mix and match items in your closet different than you have before!

December Traditions

Hello Friends!

How has your weekend been? Mine has been superb! Really it’s been very nice and I can’t believe I’m saying, the only thing that would have made it better is SNOW! Usually I don’t say stuff like that, but hey it’s December and it’s been 60 degrees…that is weird but didn’t dampen my weekend!

On Thursday (Yes my weekend has been ramping up to fun since Thursday!) my husband and I drove to Salem with family members (mother, father, sister, brother in law, and niece) to look at the lights at Salem Pond and Spanish Fork Golf Course. These communities create some fun light displays that we enjoyed. At Salem Pond, we parked and walked out on the bridge to get a different view of the lights. (I’ll add pictures below) In Spanish Fork we drove through the displays with our windows down and headlights off, it sure is fun and the city adds more lights every year. We drive through that one at least once a year, usually picking up a mug of hot chocolate on the way because its cold (not this year though, I mean yes it was about 40 but seriously that is nothing compared to last year when it snowed early and was below zero for most of December…brrrrr). This was a fun evening.

Friday evening we met family members (aforementioned, along with another niece and her two children and one more niece with her bestie) at the Sandy Expo Center for the Festival of Trees. I have only been once and hubs has never been so we were in for a treat. If you don’t know what the Festival of Trees is: Many people decorate and donate a tree to be sold and profits go to Primary Children’s Medical Center. My husband looked up their history online while we were there and they’ve made millions for the hospital since the event began. I love a benefit like this event; my son Connor spent more than a week at Primary Children’s when he was one year old. He was severely ill and they were the only place able to treat him. Our local hospital did not have the resources or personnel, so he was life flighted (helicopter) and we were so blessed to have the care he needed in that emergency.

Some people donate trees in the names of people (loved ones) recently deceased and the trees are a kind of memorial to the person and things they liked. I’ll add some of my favorite trees from that night.

We visited the fudge and divinity vendors which was fun. Have you ever tried to make divinity?? My sister reminded me of a time when we were young and determined; we tried our hardest to make divinity and it would never set up, so we poured it into a 9×13 pan and set it in the fridge but it still didn’t set up. Divinity is so tempermental! The divinity vendor was sold out when we arrived and they stopped making it so they told us that at 8:55pm (five minutes before closing) we could come back and see if anyone had not picked up their order. So when we heard the “closing announcement” I reminded my sister “Let’s get to the divinity aisle”! and we all booked it down there where our persistence was rewarded and I got a wonderful bite of the heavenly treat. Divinity is divine…. πŸ˜‰

Then for our big day Saturday (first I slept in til 830, such a wonderful thing) and we discovered a boutique in Salem where my sister got a darling “baby beanie” so cute. We then hit ULTA which is always fun sampling new makeup items. We discovered some gorgeous lip shades and I bought one for myself. We then met up with the whole family; everyone listed above along with our son and two grandchildren and rode the Frontrunner (train running north and south between Provo and Ogden) making our way to downtown Salt Lake to see more lights and visit Temple Square. I love visiting Salt Lake Temple Square, it’s so beautiful and with the lights it’s just magical. There were so many people, we crowded on to the train, then traxx was crowded, and lots of people at City Creek Mall along with Temple Square but we all managed to stay together and get some fun pictures with almost no injuries (little Venna fell and bumped her head, poor little thing; Emily fell two or three times but no bruises or goose eggs)

These are all part of our December traditions; enjoying beautiful light displays, spending time with family, and remembering the birth of our Savior. Merry Christmas everyone.

Layering

Morning my friends!

I love to layer and fall/winter is the easiest time to do this, but I don’t just mean “layers” as in coat, sweater, scarf; I mean layers as in textures, shine, shapes, patterns, and colors.

This morning I really wanted to wear my burgundy beanie with the pink poof. I’ve really been waiting to wear this for about a month when mama and I shopped at Express. I got this darling pink ruffle sleeve sweater and a burgundy beanie with a pink poof. Of course it was about 75 degrees a month ago and a beanie then is just too hot. Maybe you say a beanie doesn’t work for someone my age? I really don’t think that is the case. Look how cute this beanie is with the sweater! I’m in love!

So when I say layering; I paired the sweater with a plaid (gray/brown/cream) pants from H&M, my silver (Mars landing looking) Nordstrom Rack boots really shiny, square shiny silver earrings, my burgundy bag from Charming Charlie’s, and of course my new best friend: my velvet bomber from Target. This is what I mean by layering; this becomes an outfit with several complex, interesting, and complimentary items which makes it really fun! I had thought of doing pink velvet booties but I realized the pants bring out a kind of silvery brownΒ look (if you cross your eyes looking at them Haha) so I thought the shiny silver boots would be fun and unexpected. Fun and unexpected is a thing I like! Be fun and unexpected today! How does that look for you??
