Travel Misadventures (continued)

Hello friends!

I’m on an AA plane while writing this and today I’ve already had one delayed flight. It’s almost comical, the weird crap happening on our trip! (we did have a wonderful time visiting our children and grandchildren though, that is an important detail to remember)

To start out today, you need to know that at 5am, some idiot pulled the fire alarm at our hotel. There wasn’t a fire but then we were awake and when I did finally go to sleep, I dreamt of getting caught in a fire. Not fun!

To add a little more crazy, at 750 am, someone’s car alarm went off. So I just decided to get up, seriously what’s the point of laying there any longer??

Then when waiting for our flight later at Asheville airport, we find out it’s delayed 2 hours… an airport worker tells us to go back out in the main entrance to the ticket counter and AA will shuttle us by bus to the Charlotte airport (which is 2 hours away???)

Needless to say, we do what AA people tells us to do AND the girls at ticket counter were like “well you can take a bus to Charlotte if you want, but you’ll have to pay for that”…. uh what?

Yes you heard right.

So eventually we got tickets for a later connecting flight from Dallas to home and back we go through security (for the second time in two hours, I really love doing that BTW-sarcasm assumes)

So here we are again waiting for another flight, 2 hours later than our original flight. Our boarding passes did not have seats assigned so we frequently went up to the counter to ask for our seats. Not yet they said.

Finally the call for boarding and the whole room cheered! And we just got up and went in line. Got up to the front and “you have to go over there, he is assigning you seats”-Perfect. Another line for my seat that I’ve requested for two hours and then back in line to get on the plane.

I’m just not very cheery at this point, who knows why….

Eventually we made it to Dallas and after three hours I am on the 1045 flight to SLC- maybe getting home by 1am.

Here’s hoping that nothing else goes wrong.

Happy weekend friends! Air travel at its finest ✈️

Travel Misadventures

Hello friends!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

My week was supposed to be incredibly fun but due to our travel mishaps (over and over) it was less than that.

On our way to NC, we encountered a 3 hour delay on Delta (due to increased heat during the day which lead to our plane being too heavy to get off the ground-I may not be a flight engineer but I do know that is it HOT in August-who in the world was not planning on heat on August 19???-for the love of Pete)!

Due to the afore mentioned but clearly unplanned heat in the midst of summer delay-we missed our connecting flight in Atlanta. We also missed our later (last minute re booked stand by flight) so we were on the hook for an early next morning flight out of Atlanta. But seriously, where on earth were we staying in Atlanta?? We didn’t know until we landed at 10:30pm.

Delta said we would be taken care of by several agents helping us once we got off the plane. There was one agent and a long line. The poor agent gave us a voucher to stay at a local motel although informed us we would not be getting our luggage…. uh what’s that?? You aren’t unloading the plane even though we missed our connecting flight, our rental car in NC, AND our hotel room in NC?? Apparently getting the luggage off the plane would take several hours even though they normally haul luggage off a plane.

They gave us each a mini bag with lotion, razor, toothpaste and toothbrush with a regular hair brush. That’s peachy, I have no clean clothes or underwear and I can’t wash my face but I can brush my teeth and my hair?? Perfect -at least yours truly has a wig and can just put this baby over her unwashed hair -makeup still caked on face-sweaty body-after a freaking long flight. (I did wash my underwear in the sink with a bar of soap and took a bath-thankfully)

And that’s not the end!

We finally get to Asheville NC -I’m still wearing clothes and makeup from yesterday but we’ve landed and are getting the rental car….maybe. The cashier at Budget Rental sends us down to the parking garage where she says someone will meet us and bring our rental …. we wait, and wait, and wait… by this time I’m a little on edge! A couple of older gentlemen drive by with a white van (uh wait, weren’t we supposed to get a white van? Where is it going and why??)

So hubby takes off across the parking garage chasing the white van. Three rows over he is talking to them, still talking, still talking (meanwhile I am losing it-somebody feed me quick!) I yell out “Mike! Is that our van”?? In my loudest voice….

He yells back that they are trying to figure it out. So I have no more nerves left and I grab all our bags at once and stomp across the parking garage. I guess it’s our vehicle cause the two attendants walk away, but I get Mikes attention to open the hatch. And…nothing… we finally realize that they gave us the wrong keys which is really a cruel joke after the trip we’ve had. Mike races after them so they don’t leave the garage (it’s unmanned btw) and has an argument with the attendant because he doesn’t think he gave Mike the wrong keys until he finds them on his ring clipped on his belt!

Can you believe these series of events???

The above events are true and I will share the return fiasco in my next post! This is a trip to truly remember!

National Park Heaven

Hello friends!

On the last day of my special four day weekend hubs and I traveled home through another of Utah’s National Parks- Bryce Canyon National Park. We get to spend time driving home and love to take scenic routes. (Does Utah have more National Parks than any other state??) Utah has Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands (Canyonlands is the only Utah National Park I haven’t visited- I have a special love for my home state National Park-Yellowstone ⭐️)

It’s a casual, comfy, car day and I wore a cute spring outfit (while looking for a hat {never need an excuse to shop} to wear in the sun-from Dressbarn-the blouse has pretty spring colors that I love and the pants are linen which are nice in the hot weather.

I looked up the answer for which state has the most National Parks:

California has the most (nine), followed by Alaska (eight), Utah (five), and Colorado (four). The largest national park is Wrangell–St. Elias in Alaska: at over 8 million acres (32,375 km2), it is larger than each of the nine smallest states. The next three largest parks are also in Alaska.

Week full of tripping

Hello friends!

I told you I would update on my trip to my clients service.

My trip started at 130 am… wait what?? Yes I accidentally woke at 130 and finally just dragged myself out of bed at 145. I figured it was hopeless to try for 15 more minutes of sleep and actually I’m glad I did cause I’m a little of an early bird so those extra few minutes made me very calm.

I fell asleep on the plane; let’s face it, it was dark, quiet, and the buzz of the engines just pulled me right to sleep 😴 I’m pretty sure my mouth was open, I sleep with my mouth open, I could in theory catch bugs. I was rudely awakened when someone’s phone went off! I actually dreamt I was at home and slept through my alarm so I woke freaking out! (Luckily I did not wake my neighbor lol)

I even got to the rental car company without (don’t think so) looking as if I had no clue what I was doing! That’s a win win!

Then I plugged the Church or Cathedral address into my google map on my phone and off I went (stopping off at a luckily found Denny’s for breakfast as I was starving! Seriously who wants to eat breakfast at 3 am?? Wasn’t feeling it) then back on the road… but as I entered the chapel it did not appear as if prepared for a service. It looked like an ordinary day…? Help

Yes I went to the wrong church, apparently two have the exact same name but in different cities …so I had to high tail it out of there and hopefully make it on time! Thank goodness I did, I think it meant a lot to the parents that I was there, they seemed comforted and I got to hear lots of wonderful memories of my client throughout the day. It was a beautiful day, I was exhausted but it was a beautiful day.

I did try to go shopping afterwards and found the “most noted” mall in that particular city but by the time I drove around downtown looking for parking I figured I would not have enough time to make it back to the rental car and airport before my flight so I did not shop- I know, sad huh. Although I did see a great deal of said city and really enjoyed driving into these tall tall skyscrapers that I hadn’t seen before! I felt brave and accomplished going on this trip and renting a car all on my own -I am woman – ❤️

I got back home pretty tired, you can see by the pic I took at airport I’m dragging a little. But made it home, yay!

Now tomorrow me and hubs are going on a road trip for our anniversary! We hope to relax and go hiking, catch a movie, see a concert, lay by the pool and just chill. I’m super stoked to be going on another trip for a four day weekend! Here are pics of a couple outfits I’m packing because they’re so summery! Got them both at Target.

I just want to thank you, my friend. Thanks for reading! I sure appreciate all the support you give me by reading my blog, it means a lot. Have a great Thursday (tomorrow)!

Roaming in Roatan

Hello friends!

Thanks so much for reading about my vacation adventures! My next stop is Roatan, Mahogany Bay, Honduras!

The ship was able to dock at the pier here in Roatan! I got to see it happen as I was working out as we were rolling into the port. It’s so pretty, I took some pictures before I ran to our room to shower!

We met our tour guide (booked through Carnival) outside the terminal/pier and got on a van with quite a few other people and headed out to tour the Island -Best of Roatan!

Our first stop is an Iguana Farm- the story goes that a young farmer was eating a mango and threw the skin on the ground and looked over and a an iguana was having a meal of the skin-he protected the iguana and word spread (iguana word- don’t know how that works) and now there are hundreds? of iguanas on this farm. They’re pretty big and apparently taste like chicken (tasty Kentucky fried) according to our guide. I did not hold one however, (bugs, snakes, lizards, sharks, and bears are my fears!)

We then stopped at Stone Castle Cameo Factory- some talented crafts men/women carve beautiful designs into shells – some are big conch shells and some smaller to fit in your hand. They were all beautiful and I bought a necklace (it was a little speedy for me but I thought it would help the economy there a little bit (Roatan’s people are very poor).

We then stopped at a Rum Bar (not my thing- I don’t drink alcohol) along with a lighthouse. We climbed to the top of the lighthouse where we took some amazing pictures of (almost) the whole island from our vantage point. It’s beautiful and I will share a couple pics!

Then we went to the other side of the island to a local shopping area -Half Moon Bay and visited Roatan Chocolate Factory and The Rusty Fish!

Roatan Chocolate Factory picks local grown cacao and produces amazing dark chocolate treats, GF, vegan, cacao nibs, and cocoa butter! You know that amazing smelling cocoa butter from a popular lotion store that a few minutes later smells like petroleum?? Well this cocoa butter doesn’t do that, it’s chunks of the real deal-amazingly soft and fragrant forever (wow-I died and went to moisturizer heaven) so we bought chocolate and cocoa butter-yum!

The Rusty Fish is a local operation that recycles (trash for lack of a better word) and creates unique collectibles, Knick knacks and jewelry! Hubs got a Paga Mask made out of a discarded copper and table leg. It’s really colorful and interesting along with representing some cultural influences. We got a couple fun pictures here at The Rusty Fish.

We then discovered a cool club on the beach where we saw a local dance performance and ate lunch watching the waves. It was a beautiful day on Roatan- some rain but a gorgeous place to visit.

Welcome to the Jungle

Hello friends!

Here is my continuation describing my cruise fun! I hope you enjoy reading as much as I had experiencing!

The next location on our list is Belize; and Belize it or not, it is beautiful 😂😂

Our ship anchored five miles off shore because Belize has one of the worlds largest barrier reefs and ships moving through would damage this delicate system. So we took a tender to shore where we met our tour director -owner of cavetubing.com (Butts Up) and I highly recommend going on this tour-Cave Tubing and Ziplining! They took such good care of us!

Outside the terminal/pier we met our guide (not before some local woman told me “honey, when you get back I’ll fix those braids”! Haha! I braided my own hair that day cause I knew I wouldn’t want to mess with my hair- too funny!) and we boarded a large van which took around 12 of us on a hour ride into Belize, where we were led hiking into the jungle (Guns N Roses- Welcome to the Jungle 😂) seriously it was amazing- hiking this mud and rock trail in the middle of nowhere and you can’t see anything because of all the foliage and huge trees and palms!

It was all so green (our guide told us it is their dry season-rainy season is in the summer- but it rained almost all day so that struck me as funny) we are all wearing swimsuits and helmets with lights mounted on them (oh and I was wearing crocs! Haha we accidentally left our water shoes on the ship so we rented “pink crocs” for me to hike in-interestingly enough they work well there in the mud and water). We crossed a thigh deep river three times before we came to a big cave, I mean BIG CAVE!

Our local guide then tied 12 tubes together with rope and we set into a river that runs through this HUGE CAVE-it’s a national park-St Herman’s Blue Hole National Park (of course this is after I capsized my tube and almost drowned (in 18 inches of water with embarrassment) before setting off down the river! I do this kind of thing all the time- I’m not sure how I got this talent but it finds me at the most inopportune times 😂

We float down the river for about 40 minutes in almost complete darkness except for the lights on our helmets. The ceiling of the cave is dotted at times with bats in little holes- it’s seriously the most amazing cave I’ve ever seen. And then we float out to where we first crossed the river going in. We stored our tubes, hiked back a ways, and got shorts on to hike additionally to a spot for zip lining! I got all geared up and up I go- trying not to trip over all the straps hanging from my waist down to my knees (you know I could do that fairly easy)!

We got to the first platform and all of us- even young kids are panting cause we’ve hiked straight up it seems, but there’s a reward to this! We go down several lines to the highest and longest (1000 ft long) and that was my favorite! I was probably zipping along at what seemed like 30 mph and cruised over a river- my friends this was such a RUSH! I loved it! You should all go zip lining! Over a river! At breakneck speeds! 😂😂 I was giddy!

After two more lines we were done and hiked back to our van; then our guides took us to their main (jungle restaurant) where they gave us home made chicken tamales. It was such a fun experience! Check out Butts Up, you won’t be sorry 😍 here are some pictures of our adventures (taken through a water proof case, so not the best), I hope you enjoy! (Tour took us back to the tender and we went back to the ship on time)

My next blog post will tell you all about our stop at Roatan, Mahogany Bay, Honduras.

Vacation Land

Hello friends!

I’m home from my vacation but I thought to give you a rundown on all the fun things to do and fun things we did on a Carnival Cruise!

I’ve told you about my first two days and the bamboo massage and facial; I highly recommend btw! This post will focus on our day at Cozumel and Tulum!

We arrived at Cozumel around 8am and were able to get off the ship to take a taxi and meet our tour at another pier. We took the tour through Shipmate Shore Excursions-shoreexcursionsgroup.com Tour of Tulum/ruins. We took a ferry to mainland and then a 40 minute van ride to Tulum. The ruins are amazing-and our local guide told us so many interesting details about the Mayan people, their customs, calendar, and symbols of the ruins- it is not to be missed if you ever go! I also got my daily steps goal plus a few thousand walking around.

There is a steep stair case behind the ruins leading to the most gorgeous beach and I played in the ocean for about an hour. The sand is like powdered sugar it’s so soft and the ocean is a brilliant turquoise. It was amazing; and looking up at the ruins while a ways out in the water was spectacular! I didn’t think to take my water proof case out there I was having so much fun, so no pic 😦

We then made our way back to the van meeting place where our guides had picked us up some lunch for the drive back. I was famished but love Tulum. I think I want to live there! 😊

We finished the day by taking the ferry back to Cozumel and boarding the ship (but first I found a “day of the dead” sarong to match my red swimsuit-life is good!
