Taken by Surprise

Hello Friends! I hope you’ve had a great weekend!

A week ago when on vacation I had some odd-wig and then shaved head moments. Let me share them with you:

Our travel agent (Sharon) accompanied 9 of us on this trip that included her husband, daughter, and new SIL.

When we arrived at Ft Lauderdale airport, it’s 4am and a little chilly- I had flown the red eye wig less and make up less so as soon as we de planed, I spent a quick 15 minutes putting on makeup.

The whole group saw me during the flight-rosacea does not like me to wear makeup for 12+ hours so I was being gentle on my skin. But as soon as we arrived, I wanted to see Miami with makeup AND hair.

Outside the airport I rifled through my luggage to grab my wig, Sharon thought I was getting a coat- and appeared startled as I popped my wig on in front of her.

Several times on our trip I was either wearing my shaved head or my wig so it was pretty obvious.

At the end of the trip Sharon mentioned to me “it’s ok if you don’t wear your hair, you look great without it”- but I told her I liked my wig and sometimes I like my own head. I think maybe other people feel they need to give me permission to be myself. Another of our group members said my shaved head was “spunky, I really like it” although no one seemed curious enough to ask me why I wore a wig. Maybe they thought that too personal? Maybe people felt uncomfortable inquiring about my hair?

I don’t mind questions. I don’t however, wear a wig or my shaved head to make anyone else comfortable. I do it to make myself happy in my own situation.

I will continue to wear wigs or shave my head just for me to feel comfortable with me and my hair loss ❤️

Wig Travels

Hello Friends! I went on vacation last week and my wig joined me! I thought you would like to hear of “her” vacation and cruise!

Flying into Miami, Marion (by Jon Renau-my wig) spent the flight in a cozy place in her lady’s luggage, wrapped and tucked in a special box. Her lady traveled a red eye with no makeup and hair; but at 4am in the baggage claim-lady put on her makeup with the treasures in carry on baggage. Waiting for a bus outside the Ft Lauderdale airport Lady is chilled with some wind and Marion popped on her head with several human beings watching. Marion pretends to be a hat sometimes, she keeps Lady’s head warm.

Marion got her picture taken in front of Hard Rock Stadium hours before Super Bowl. Other wigs are impressed. She toured the amazing mansion of Vizcaya in Miami and looks fresh and bouncy as if she had not flown a red eye.

Marion got her picture taken previous to boarding a huge cruise ship as she did not look like Lady’s other hair.

Marion’s lovely locks waved in the breeze as the ship left the pier and did a big U turn in the harbor to maneuver in the right direction.

Marion toured the big ship and waved in the breeze as Lady sunned on deck with a bathing suit and hat (that fits lady’s head even with a wig!)

Marion spend the next morning relaxing in the room as Lady got a facial but she joined the ship for a great burger lunch and then after more exploring, dinner and a fun comedy show that night.

The next day in Jamaica, Marion stayed on the ship as Lady was horseback riding and didn’t want to lose her to island living but back on the ship, she rejoins Lady for dinner and another entertaining musical show.

The next day in Grand Cayman, Marion stays back because Lady is riding a wave runner and swimming with stingrays and for sure would stay in this lovely haven. But back on the ship, Marion and makeup join Lady for dinner and a comedy show.

Here’s another day at another island Cozumel; Marion relaxes in the room as Lady will be snorkeling and exploring a Cenote. Marion doesn’t mind staying back because she is happy with her new owner 🙂 and the Cenote has bats that poop so Marion is a little afraid of bat dung staining her locks.

The last day on the ship, Marion spends a lot of time with Lady because the skies are cloudy and somewhat rainy/windy and is not the time to stay on deck. Marion gets to see two movies along with eating a yummy lunch and early dinner. She watches karoke which sometimes is good/bad depending on the singer LOL- but Marion never looks bad.

Today as Marion gets off ship with Lady, she anticipates a fun outing to Everglades National Park -Marion finally gets to tag along!-Lady quickly tucks her in a pink backpack for safety during an airboat tour but she is back in place afterwards. She finally went on an exciting excursion!

Many people observed Marion’s on and off adventures and wonder what it all means but Lady loves Marion and they get along so well that they don’t care what others think.

Travel Misadventures (continued)

Hello friends!

I’m on an AA plane while writing this and today I’ve already had one delayed flight. It’s almost comical, the weird crap happening on our trip! (we did have a wonderful time visiting our children and grandchildren though, that is an important detail to remember)

To start out today, you need to know that at 5am, some idiot pulled the fire alarm at our hotel. There wasn’t a fire but then we were awake and when I did finally go to sleep, I dreamt of getting caught in a fire. Not fun!

To add a little more crazy, at 750 am, someone’s car alarm went off. So I just decided to get up, seriously what’s the point of laying there any longer??

Then when waiting for our flight later at Asheville airport, we find out it’s delayed 2 hours… an airport worker tells us to go back out in the main entrance to the ticket counter and AA will shuttle us by bus to the Charlotte airport (which is 2 hours away???)

Needless to say, we do what AA people tells us to do AND the girls at ticket counter were like “well you can take a bus to Charlotte if you want, but you’ll have to pay for that”…. uh what?

Yes you heard right.

So eventually we got tickets for a later connecting flight from Dallas to home and back we go through security (for the second time in two hours, I really love doing that BTW-sarcasm assumes)

So here we are again waiting for another flight, 2 hours later than our original flight. Our boarding passes did not have seats assigned so we frequently went up to the counter to ask for our seats. Not yet they said.

Finally the call for boarding and the whole room cheered! And we just got up and went in line. Got up to the front and “you have to go over there, he is assigning you seats”-Perfect. Another line for my seat that I’ve requested for two hours and then back in line to get on the plane.

I’m just not very cheery at this point, who knows why….

Eventually we made it to Dallas and after three hours I am on the 1045 flight to SLC- maybe getting home by 1am.

Here’s hoping that nothing else goes wrong.

Happy weekend friends! Air travel at its finest ✈️

Travel Misadventures

Hello friends!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

My week was supposed to be incredibly fun but due to our travel mishaps (over and over) it was less than that.

On our way to NC, we encountered a 3 hour delay on Delta (due to increased heat during the day which lead to our plane being too heavy to get off the ground-I may not be a flight engineer but I do know that is it HOT in August-who in the world was not planning on heat on August 19???-for the love of Pete)!

Due to the afore mentioned but clearly unplanned heat in the midst of summer delay-we missed our connecting flight in Atlanta. We also missed our later (last minute re booked stand by flight) so we were on the hook for an early next morning flight out of Atlanta. But seriously, where on earth were we staying in Atlanta?? We didn’t know until we landed at 10:30pm.

Delta said we would be taken care of by several agents helping us once we got off the plane. There was one agent and a long line. The poor agent gave us a voucher to stay at a local motel although informed us we would not be getting our luggage…. uh what’s that?? You aren’t unloading the plane even though we missed our connecting flight, our rental car in NC, AND our hotel room in NC?? Apparently getting the luggage off the plane would take several hours even though they normally haul luggage off a plane.

They gave us each a mini bag with lotion, razor, toothpaste and toothbrush with a regular hair brush. That’s peachy, I have no clean clothes or underwear and I can’t wash my face but I can brush my teeth and my hair?? Perfect -at least yours truly has a wig and can just put this baby over her unwashed hair -makeup still caked on face-sweaty body-after a freaking long flight. (I did wash my underwear in the sink with a bar of soap and took a bath-thankfully)

And that’s not the end!

We finally get to Asheville NC -I’m still wearing clothes and makeup from yesterday but we’ve landed and are getting the rental car….maybe. The cashier at Budget Rental sends us down to the parking garage where she says someone will meet us and bring our rental …. we wait, and wait, and wait… by this time I’m a little on edge! A couple of older gentlemen drive by with a white van (uh wait, weren’t we supposed to get a white van? Where is it going and why??)

So hubby takes off across the parking garage chasing the white van. Three rows over he is talking to them, still talking, still talking (meanwhile I am losing it-somebody feed me quick!) I yell out “Mike! Is that our van”?? In my loudest voice….

He yells back that they are trying to figure it out. So I have no more nerves left and I grab all our bags at once and stomp across the parking garage. I guess it’s our vehicle cause the two attendants walk away, but I get Mikes attention to open the hatch. And…nothing… we finally realize that they gave us the wrong keys which is really a cruel joke after the trip we’ve had. Mike races after them so they don’t leave the garage (it’s unmanned btw) and has an argument with the attendant because he doesn’t think he gave Mike the wrong keys until he finds them on his ring clipped on his belt!

Can you believe these series of events???

The above events are true and I will share the return fiasco in my next post! This is a trip to truly remember!

Couch Potato Plan

Hello friends!

How are you all this wonderful Wednesday?? I’m so glad the week is half over. I’m telling you my training was tough tough tough. It’s the most difficult thing I’ve done for years!

We spent the whole training in silence which was not as difficult as spending (25) 25 minute meditation-which means I sat on a chair with a straight posture, my feet flat on the floor and my hands resting on my knees without moving. (Some people sat on cushions with their legs crossed but baby my knees are at a age that I cannot sit cross legged anymore LOL) So I sat on a chair. It was so hard! But I made it through and am very proud of myself.

We did this training on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound outside of Seattle Washington and oh my gosh it’s such a pretty area. The smells of the forest around us was AMAZING! I couldn’t figure out what smelled so good until a co worker, born and raised in Washington told me it was the redwood trees, cedar smell. Friends, I’ve never been so in love with trees before. OH MY GOSH it was so beautiful, so that helped to balance out the HARD.

But last night as I got home from work, I had no desire to do anything but lay on the couch, (I was so tired) cue up my new Jurassic World movie and eat Thai food. That was my couch potato plan and I enjoyed it!

Enjoy the pictures I’m adding of the area around The Whidbey Institute. It’s a gorgeous place. I’m also adding pictures of the cabin we stayed.

Selfie Suggestions (SAFETY)

Hello Friends!

I hope you all made it through Monday?? Thank goodness it’s almost over; it rained and snowed my whole commute to work! Me and Monday are not friends at all! If it’s ever forecast to snow on Monday, you can bet your first child that it will be at 8am! :/ My life problems right?? LOL

So I think everyone knows about my scenic trip to two of Utah’s National Parks over the weekend right?? Well there’s one thing you didn’t know….

We traveled through Bryce Canyon National Park and it is beautiful. I’ll share some fun pictures but I did want to share my thoughts about selfies as I visited Bryce Canyon.

We walked up to the highest elevation overlook-Rainbow Point at 9115 elevation and as I look over, I see a young woman straddling the protective wall meant to keep people from falling over the cliff. I felt super anxious as I worried that she would topple right off-and tumble down 800 feet (the wind was also super gusting at that elevation, so would be easy to loose your balance). She is also on her phone either facetiming or taking a selfie…I can’t tell which.  I walked over by her and asked her ‘who is going to save your life if you fall’ and she kind of shrugged and got down…Seriously people! This totally freaked me out and was very dangerous! Please please be safe when you take pictures or selfies. I understand the need for selfies….c’mon I take them just about every day, but please be safe when doing so. It’s not worth getting hurt, maimed, or dying. It’s just not worth it.

Back to beautiful pictures of Bryce Canyon National Park 😉

National Park Heaven

Hello friends!

On the last day of my special four day weekend hubs and I traveled home through another of Utah’s National Parks- Bryce Canyon National Park. We get to spend time driving home and love to take scenic routes. (Does Utah have more National Parks than any other state??) Utah has Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands (Canyonlands is the only Utah National Park I haven’t visited- I have a special love for my home state National Park-Yellowstone ⭐️)

It’s a casual, comfy, car day and I wore a cute spring outfit (while looking for a hat {never need an excuse to shop} to wear in the sun-from Dressbarn-the blouse has pretty spring colors that I love and the pants are linen which are nice in the hot weather.

I looked up the answer for which state has the most National Parks:

California has the most (nine), followed by Alaska (eight), Utah (five), and Colorado (four). The largest national park is Wrangell–St. Elias in Alaska: at over 8 million acres (32,375 km2), it is larger than each of the nine smallest states. The next three largest parks are also in Alaska.
