Hello Friends and Happy Wednesday!
We are nearly halfway through our work week! I do enjoy my work and I also enjoy my weekends, how about you? I love remembering it’s halfway!
I thought it would be fun to describe what I do to plan for a fall day that is 36 in the morning and 65 in the afternoon- 65 is such a mild temperature and could even pass for short sleeve shirts but the morning would not.
Something I try to do is layer….I wear my coat in the morning so I’m not freezing; then when I get to work I shed that but lots of times have a cardigan over a short sleeve shirt or light long sleeve shirt so I’m not too haute! (Remember my last post when I forgot and wore a huge sweater LOL)!
Today I tried something new for me, I wore a bright orange tank top but paired it with my leopard cardigan. So my arms are bare under the cardigan and it’s not too warm in my office or outside but perfect with the cardigan over the top! I also think it will work well in the afternoon because my cardigan sleeves are not a heavy blend.
I got my tank originally about four years ago from Nordstrom Rack and it’s such a pretty color, it deserves a rotation in my wardrobe. This is also super affordable; thrifting or shopping our closets are the most economical and ecologically friendly things we can do. The cardigan is fairly new, (I’ve been searching forever for a leopard cardigan) and it’s from Chicos, but I’m guessing it will last for years. I’ve had items from Chicos before and am still wearing them years later, so it’s definitely a piece to keep in my closet. I added some fun earrings that interestingly enough are fairly old (affordable) but also Chicos but look fun with the tank and cardigan; I wore some pre destructed jeans that fit my butt well from Nordstrom (Kut) and my boot like shoes from Target.
Here I am, ready for any weather that might pop up this time of year! And I’m shopping my closet! So this is a win win!
Have a great week friends!
I thought I would share my journey to find the separates which makes this slinky slip skirt perfect for summer!
I found this slip skirt at Nordstrom during their anniversary sale. I was originally looking for a special pleated leopard skirt (but the leopard skirt was sold out) so randomly I found this blue/rust slip skirt also on sale. I don’t always like to dress like everyone else and this skirt seemed a great way to get on the slip skirt trend but still have something that everyone doesn’t have.
My only problem is that I couldn’t find a top to complement the skirt. All my ideas seem to include sweaters or cardigans and it’s way too hot to wear anything like that now. I tried on several tops at Nordstrom also on sale but most of them were see through which doesn’t work for me. I looked at Target, JCPenney, and anywhere else I could think.
Then! Luckily it was my birthday and Express sent me a $20 reward. Now I didn’t actually want to spend any money so I scoured their racks looking for a top that was on sale and within my reward amount. (I’m so cheap these days! LOL)
Finally I found a textured top, kind of a waffle weave shirt with a boat neck and somewhat of a curved hem in natural color which I thought would be great along the silky shine of the skirt. I then added my white sneakers (they have gold cut outs, so are somewhat unique from JCPenney awhile ago).
These items are all a perfect match and I’m amazed how well this skirt works in the heat of summer. It’s so silky and breezy, it’s like having a little fan around my legs and kept me very cool (makes me wonder if I’ll get cold in the winter, maybe that’s why the cardigan would work?) and it’s such a pretty color that I really had fun wearing it. I’ll wear it often and enjoy myself. It’s such a fun trend that I didn’t think would work for me, but I tried it out and love it!
Try this fun trend out for yourself!
Hello friends and happy Thursday!
I love Thursday because it’s right next to Friday and I know I’ve worked really hard and the weekend is my reward! Yay!
Hubs gave me an update to our retirement plan this week: work 10 more years and then we can retire-??? 🙁 gosh…only ten huh? 😂 but I think to myself, I just have to get through it one week at a time 😊
Anyway back to more fun subjects; I’ve got so much satisfaction shopping my closet that I continued with this fun look!
My raspberry suede look pants, raspberry hat, and snakeskin boots are all from Target- the most recent purchase was about October so the pants might still be in the store.
My duster is from Express; I snagged it I think in September for around 50% off. And my tank top is years old from Ann Taylor but I love the texture of all the layers and silver. I added a couple of fun necklaces -the pink heart necklace I bought from Mervyns about 14 years ago when I worked there as an associate. (I keep the things I love)
Anyway this was such a fun outfit to wear, mostly due to all the raspberry and pink tones, it’s one of my favorites!
Look through your own closet and rediscover jewels that you haven’t worn for awhile. I love doing this!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend (now that the last minutes are ticking away LOL)
I visited with two of my grandkids that live farther away so it was a great weekend getaway so to speak ❤️
I want to share my love for these green/purple/black plaid pants I got on clearance at Target. At first I matched them with a striped purple and black sweater but this time I toned them down with a green sweatshirt- which normally means more casual but I added my vintage black fur coat with my Walmart faux fur backpack, my purple fringe earrings (target again) fur loafers (also Target- its a Target type of day) and TADA! My purple Anastasia lipstick!
All of this made for a classic look even though I was wearing a sweatshirt! (It was pretty comfy and I was warm). So anytime you are thinking you can’t wear a sweatshirt cause it seems too casual; just add a few classy-sassy items and you can UP your wardrobe game.
I’m also still trying to see how many looks I can combine without adding a new item (shop my closet fun)! I’ve been re organizing my closet too and it gives me more ideas for new outfits so stay tuned!!
I think I’m finally getting the hang of 2019; it’s taken a couple weeks but I might be back to myself. Two weeks of three day work is nice but the added burden of completing 5 days of work in 3 (two weeks in a row) is exhausting. How do you adjust to change or stress? It takes a lot out of me for the most part. Usually change or stress can be managed with self care but I’ve been slacking in that area too! What’s up with all this??
Anyway, enough talk of my difficulties! It’s time to focus on fashion! 👗
I purchased a sweater from Loft lately, it was on sale for $20 and I’ve sure got my money’s worth. It’s so cute! It’s dark blue with gold polka dots and has a rounded hem. It’s so fun!
One day I paired it with my gold skirt and leopard boots for a fun Sunday look (sparkly earrings too!)
The next outfit idea is pairing my polka dot sweater with my gray jeans, a blue plaid jacket from Cabi, my snakeprint boots from Target and this snuggly faux fur lite blue coat also from Target. I was staying warm this day for sure!
One thing I try to make sure is that when I’m thinking of buying an item- I make sure I can think of several outfits to combine with it! That makes my wardrobe stretch really far! You can do this too if you want and it’s also fun to see how many combinations result from one new item.
Happy reruns friends!
Happy New Year friends! Seriously this is what I thought last week! (I have this thing against odd numbers!) but seriously I experienced some unexpected difficulties at work which hijacked my whole week of blogging and life as a hopeful-positive person. Life is hard sometimes but then I just have to keep going right??
So I thought instead of focusing on the negative parts of my week, I would share another closet shopping trip!
It started out as a cold day! Which should have clued me into the negative storm heading my way, but I digress…..
So I wanted to wear some warm leggings (sequin leggings from Express last year are what I decided on😂) YES Then I paired them with a thermal black shirt (tip for dressing warm) and a leopard dress from ASOS last year. I added my leather looking sneaks and my (actually this is new) deep green leather like moto jacket with faux fur collar from Express (at least it was 50% off) and a cute appliqué bag I snagged from Charming Charlie’s a couple years ago.
I stayed warm, I wore a flippin cute dress, and if you looked close- you could see sequins peeking out as I went about my work day. That’s almost enough to balance out a bad work week right??
(My week in emojis)
Hello Friends and happy Friday!
It’s been a three day work week for me and boy has it been hard. Who knew a three day week would be so difficult. I guess it’s hard to have four days off and then boom, be back in the grind….it’s an adjustment right??
So I thought I would continue (on some posts) of the same closet shopping I’ve been doing for the past month. I am enjoying discovering new ways to wear the old stuff I love and I hope you enjoy it too!
Today I wore a denim look top by Target (Universal Thread) combined with my gray Express stretch jeans, boots and scarf also by Target and my glittery drop earrings by Charlotte Ruse (right before their store closed, several years ago). I added a pop of pink/purple on my lips (purple/blue/pink all go so well together) and a pink pop tiny bag from JCPenney. Purple is one of my favorite colors, so when I can mix it with blue and pink, I somehow feel very happy and I think it’s a flattering color for my skin tone. TIP: Try to find colors that flatter you and wear them often! Learn more about your skin undertones.
Today’s scarf is a larger size and really is keeping me warm today (TIP: items snuggled around your neck are good warming strategies! I have several heavy fabric and/or faux fur scarves and these are so toasty) as it’s 17 degrees when I left for work! 17! Honestly you’d think I live in the Arctic! It’s this part of winter that I’m not super pumped for (snow on Christmas is one thing but below zero temperatures and freezing pipes are not a few of my favorite things!) oh and these pictures are taken later in the day when it’s a balmy 30! 😂
Everyone have a wonderful weekend! I will check in with another post before the New Year arrives!
Hello Friends and happy Monday!
I normally don’t like Mondays, I mean they come every week and I really should make peace with them but ew, I would just rather not have Monday part of my lineup. I know that’s unreasonable and that would mean Tuesday would be the same as Monday now is, but honestly it’s not a rational feeling I have about Monday. I’m sorry I just can’t let it go LOL (I really like the weekend to be honest-don’t we all?)
Anyway, I’m doing more CLOSET SHOPPING!! YAY!
This week I have some inspiration from a fellow IG fashion boss babe @oysterstopearls- Shannon, some time ago wore this gorgeous blue cardigan and I was in love! I looked up on LTK and she did not link the cardigan (it was lovely, trust me)….
And then I realized DUH I have a frosty blue cardigan (duster actually) that I don’t wear often enough and it’s so pretty and velvety and soft (all the reasons I gave hubs when I bought it at Nordstrom Rack last year (or year before?). And I got so excited to wear it in a new way! This is the fun of closet shopping! It’s as if I’m wearing new clothes when I wear something I haven’t wore for awhile, plus it’s very economical! 😉
So I paired my duster with a black long sleeve top, black leggings, my two year old OTK Macy’s black boots, a black and silver choker (it’s from Chicos- one of my older items-it’s a four piece necklace set. You can wear the choker with three other strands or wear each on it’s own, so fun) and I added my leopard bag for that ooh baby pop!
All of these items are older in my closet yet fun and trendy and I’ve got lots of compliments today. Try out shopping your closet, you will not regret!
How are you all today? I hope you are staying warm! It was 16 degrees here yesterday! Brrrrrrrr…..
I discovered more ways to shop my closet-actually close to the same outfit but for two events. One is a Sunday outfit and the other I wore to work.
Sunday I wore my blue/cream striped shirt from Oldnavy, my lavender cardigan from Target, a black patterned skirt from Macy’s, and OTK boots also from Macys. I added a purple necklace from Chicos. The OTK boots kept me warm at church and I think it’s a fun look from my closet.
The very next day (yes I wear the same clothes twice in a row! LOL Sometimes it’s just too fun to change!) I wore my blue striped top again, my lavender cardigan, but added a blue/purple patterned scarf from Target, destroyed girlfriend jeans from Express, and my snakeprint boots from Target. AND I couldn’t resist wearing purple lipstick!
I had so much fun with the basic shirt and cardigan! Blue and purple are such fun color pairs! It’s important to remember art class when creating outfits. Purple is a combination of blue and red, so blue and purple will always compliment each other! Plus purple is my favorite color….you might notice that from my logo 🙂
I hope you enjoyed another installment of shopping my closet! Stay tuned for more and Happy Hump Day friends!
Wow I hope everyone is staying warm! We had a huge snowstorm last night into today and there is about 8 inches of wet cold snow out there. Be safe too!
I’m continuing my thankful thrifting/shopping my closet today! This will be a regular feature until after Christmas. I hope you enjoy 🙂
Today I’m sharing a pink/gold/cream ensemble from last year and earlier this year. I snagged these gorgeous gold pull on pants from TJMaxx in July (In Jackson Hole when I was visiting family) and this cream knit top, leopard boots (last year), and scarf from Target this year. I always have a hard time thinking of something to put with these pants but until my thrifting thankful challenge, never had I ever thought of putting them with pink! It’s such a pretty combination don’t you think?
Just to make sure I was warm just in case things turned cold (this was last Thursday-I plan my pictures in advance) I wore my tan coat snagged in September from Oldnavy for like $5 (I had some rewards) and I stayed really warm because it did start to rain/snow.
I am really enjoying my thrifting challenge. Some people might think it’s not a real thrifting challenge because I’m not buying things at a thrift store, but I think it’s thrifty because I’m shopping my closet! It’s such a challenge but yet it’s so fun! And it let’s me focus on being thankful for what I have while also being aware of others needs around me. Win/win!
So friends, the next time you think you need to shop…just look around the corner in your closet 🙂
