Here we are: summertime, swimsuit time, and it’s hard to let go of judgmental thoughts of my body.
I remember the first time being worried about wearing a swimsuit. I was at a youth activity (maybe I was 14?) at a pool about an hour away from home. For some reason I didn’t have a suit, so my mom gave me money to rent one. Yikes a rental suit.
It was a one piece with huge cut outs on the sides and I felt super self conscious wearing it.
I’ve always been very physically active so I’m guessing I looked fine. I don’t have the wherewithal to make that judgment looking back and that’s ok. I did struggle with acne -seems like I did forever (obviously that’s not a fact) so I had judgements about my face.
Every summer I try to find a swimsuit I can feel comfortable and try not to judge my body. I play in the pool with my grandkids, I play in the ocean, I play in the lake, I play in the sprinklers. I love the water-I wear lots of sunscreen because the rosacea on my face doesn’t like the sun but I love the water.
The last couple of years I’ve purchased two piece suits to practice nonjudgment about my body; plus it’s easier to find separates that fit my top and bottom better.
Here’s another summer where I am triggered to judge my body as not good enough and I’m trying to be mindful of those old crazy thoughts (that are not facts) and in the moment to just enjoy the water. Just enjoy the water.
Here I am off Grand Cayman trying to hold a stingray
Here I am in Jamaica riding a horse in the ocean.
Here I am in Tulum Mexico in the prettiest water ever.
So when I went on vacation, I thought I would walk 10,000 steps a day. I like walking.
But actually walking 10k a day takes FOR EVE VER! I’m serious! It took about 2 1/2 hours to walk 10k. That’s like half my morning…and can I add that if you walk 10k for 3 days in a row; it gets pretty boring. There are only a couple places I can walk that far without worrying about traffic and without being in full sun (remember my rosacea does not like the sun). So it’s a little boring.
I would so much rather ride my bike. It’s faster too.
When I was 8 years old (I think) I got a purple bike with a purple banana seat and I rode it all over my little rural town in Wyoming next to my grandma’s house during the summer. What fun memories. I would so much rather ride a bike than a long walk….
How are is everyone’s summer going? Can you believe it’s August already?? The last two months have flown by for me!
Summer is always a great time for t shirts and shirts but have you considered wearing dresses to run errands, get groceries, or go to the park? Dresses can be be very breezy and help to keep you cool in the 🔥🔥 summer temps!
I found a super cute summer dress (of course from Target) and it almost looks like a jumper! It’s made of linen which is such a great summer material. It’s gathered in the front and has a cute bow. I wore mine with a red t shirt and red/white patterned slides which I think is super cute with my leopard bag!
I’ve previously wore this dress with a tight white tee and platform neutral sandals. I think both looks are fun!
You’ll notice I’ve got my new blonde wig (which BTW is working out excellently for me-I don’t have nearly the anxiety as I did with the first wig I wore. I’m a lot more comfortable with it now!)
Doesn’t summer remind you of the olympics? Well last week when my family went to Wyoming for my grandfather’s funeral and my family reunion, a few of us congregated at the same hotel with a pool and needed to create some fun after my grandpa’s viewing the first night.
We got the funny idea to create a synchronized routine similar to the olympics!
We practiced and practiced! Two grandkids, two daughters and one son in law including myself performed the routine flawlessly and my son in law set it to music.
See for yourself our gold medal winning family synchronized swimming routine complete with one shower cap and two life jackets!
Happy Memorial Day weekend! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
I thought I would share a couple simple outfits that are classy and have some personality! You know outfits with personality are one of my favorite ways to dress 🙂 Both outfits showcase white shirts, just because I think white is a great color to wear in the heat of summer.
The first two outfits show the same peasant embroidered shirt. One day I wore it with raw edge ankle crop jeans and a camo jacket (cause it was quite cold) and another day I wore it with high waisted wide leg crop jeans (same wedges each time) and I can’t decide which outfit I like more! I really like the shirt with camo as it’s such a juxtaposition of styles which really speaks to me! I love the opposite idea….a lovely peasant embroidered shirt, so genteel and delicate/dainty with the tough look of camo. It’s like saying “you really don’t know me at all, I’m a lady AND don’t underestimate me! LOL it’s such fun!
Then the next two outfits, I’m wearing a basic button up white shirt (with a little bit of texture) with shorts AND some cropped striped pants. Either are fun and provide a little bit different personality to fit different plans for your day. I have worn short to work before but I always try to pair it with something really fancy to dress them up. Typically shorts would be a weekend outfit idea or for a summer holiday. The cropped striped pants can also be a weekend outfit, summer holiday or work outfit.
I love the idea of an interesting white top/shirt (all these items are super affordable and on sale at JCPenney) to dress anything up or make an outfit simple AND fun!
I know you all love Wednesday the same as I do because it’s the halfway point through the work week!
So the other day I was mistaken for a MLBB fan. True- I was wearing my Boston Red Sox tee- but it’s the cutest Tee and in a great color-RED and that was my reason for buying it 😂
I have been to Boston before and my visit was amazing. I fell in love with that great city. I even took a cool tour that passed Fenway Park- sweet right?? So it’s not like I’m not a fan of Boston- I just don’t think I’ve ever quite watched a Red Sox game on TV.
I’m an in person kind of fan- I would rather see a team play AT THE FIELD- IN THE STANDS! Know what I mean??
I do like baseball, basketball, and football and sometimes other sports; but if I’m wearing a Tee- it’s because the Tee is super cute or I’m headed to a game and I want to rock the team colors.
So here is my outfit from the other day when a Boston Red Sox rival noticed my tee and I had an awkward conversation not even mentioning why I really bought the shirt! 😳😂
Happy Labor Day weekend! For me it really was a Labor Day yesterday! 😂
We drove up to my parents home in Wyoming Friday night (late Friday night- I discovered how hard it is to see on the toad when the cars traveling toward me have new headlights)! Or maybe it’s age- IDK!
Anyway yesterday morning we wore our grubby clothes (my sisters remarked they were glad none of us were dressed up and are au naturel for this fun filled day😂🤣)and rode in the back of the truck toward the back end of the property next to the forest (can’t walk up through the property to the fence because the bushes, quaking aspen, and other trees are so thick a person can’t get through).
So my step dad drove a truck up the neighboring sledding hill in waist high grass to where we (two sisters, hubs and I, parents) could walk to the fence in tramped down foliage (the foliage is tramped in this area because of cattle grazing and wildlife). The fence posts back there are rotting at the ground as they are 15 years old; so we spent the first couple of hours using hammers and flat head screwdrivers along with anything else that would work, to force out (super heavy duty) staples (is that what they’re called? they’re pretty thick and look nothing like normal staples but I’m not your typical ranch hand!) holding the barbed wire fence up. There are about 10 posts (interspersed with smaller posts not anchoring anything) that are rotted, so while my hubby pounds the staples, I am either holding the posts up so he has some leverage or pulling the posts out and tossing them behind us in the pile to haul away.
At one point I pulled on a post and as it came free from the barbed wire fence, the wire flipped up and hit me in the face. No mirror-no foul right? Although my face stings and I feel blood- I’m kind of a low pain tolerance person but we took pictures of all our injuries and made it seem fun in a way (the barbed wire punctured one sister in the arm and left a nasty mark- we should’ve had long sleeves- although I did wear long pants and closed toe shoes- I can’t speak for anyone else!) 😂😂
It was an adventure working on the fence and then watching hubs and Bob (step dad) felling dead trees to prepare for winter.
Later that day we worked on removing bushes (they were huge BTW, some at least 15 feet tall- and 6-8 ft wide) from along the fence in the front yard- volunteer wild roses and choke cherry bushes- so that was less of an adventure and more like work, but those bushes met their match- we are warriors baby!
Videos and a pic of my day enclosed, hope you like the scenery I added.
How are you all on this fine Wednesday? I hope everyone is well and happy 🙂
I thought I would share a little bit of my fun trip to Wyoming last weekend! I left on Thursday and returned Sunday.
Thursday I had some fun in the thriving metropolis of Thayne Wyoming (actually it’s a small town) but my aunt runs a food truck by a local motel (owned by a family member) and we sat and ate the best burgers ever, followed by fun conversation with my parents and aunt and uncle.
The next day I drove up to Afton (about 20 minutes away) to visit with my grandfather (who this year will be 97)! and my two aunts were also there visiting for the Lincoln County Fair! Later that afternoon we visited the fair and watched the Swift Idol (sort of like American Idol but small scale) of local voices under a big tent. That was enjoyable although hot hot hot 🙂 Afterwards enjoyed a rodeo! Yee haw!
Then Saturday my mother and I drove up to Jackson Hole (yes the same-just about 40 minutes from where I grew up) and puttered around town-we ate lunch at Wort Bar and Motel- saw a famous person (actually two older gentlemen approached our table with a pick up line-that was funny). We stopped at a regular store-TJMaxx where I found a gorgeous embroidered maxi dress by Free People which is to die for! Smoking deal too!
Then we visited some less than affordable shops around downtown Jackson Hole LOL. I tried on a gorgeous cowboy hat with jewels around the brim, it was so pretty but $400….yes that’s how much it was dang it. Hubby said I could buy it if we sold both our cars! LOL!
We drove back home later and attended another rodeo…I can’t believe I’ve seen three rodeo’s this summer! How much more fun is that?? It’s been a great summer ya’ll.
I’m sharing the pictures of the dress and a cute video of the super expensive hat I DID NOT PURCHASE LOL! I was explaining the hat to a co worker and she asked “Did you seriously buy the hat?? You are all about deals”! And I realized, she is right! I don’t like to spend loads of money, I like to get deals on stuff. That was a good reminder to be an affordable shopper.
How was your weekend? I hope you and Monday are making peace with each other 🙂 Me and Mondays don’t always get along that why I wish this for you LOL
I thought I would share a new found discovery: I haven’t worn shorts in about 16 years. I think I was always a little self conscious and felt awkward about my legs but the last year or so I realize I need to let that go!
(Last year as I began my blog, I started wearing more dresses in the summer, kind of letting my legs out in the open) and I realize its fun and there is nothing wrong with my legs 🙂
So this year for my birthday, I got a gift card from my employer and I bought a straw tassel hat and a yellow striped ruffle sleeve shirt at Target and paired it with some destroyed denim shorts (the best deal ever for $3 at JCPenney)! Then I took a picture with my shorts on AND went out to dinner with the hubs with my shorts on! Is that celebrating or what??! I feel super accomplished taking this step and being less judgmental of myself.
Anyone want to join me and be less judgmental?? All aboard my self love train! Everyone is welcome and there is room! 🙂
Happy Saturday! (I’m sequestered in my house because it’s only 100 degrees outside) and seriously who wants to wander around out in that??
Me and hubs left to run errands but had to come back and get my car cause his has AC problems and won’t work when stopped at traffic lights (sounds important in this heat). So we did errands and have not left the house since! 😂😎 😅
I thought since I’m not doing anything terribly important (😜) I would share a special find this week!
I was retail cruising last week waiting for my eye doc appointment in Chicos and discovered the prettiest denim jacket! It was 40% off and has the cutest details around the neck/lapel area and cuffs. It sort of has a bohemian vibe and I fell in love! It also looks super cute with this little camel 🐪 pin (also on sale and Chicos)! Seriously their stuff is usually bookoo bucks and I avoid but the sale beckoned me in 😂
I think fun and unusual details such as these are always on trend! You could wear this jacket with jeans, zebra print pants like Chicos has, or these (old find) gold snakeprint pants from Macys couple years ago. I might also pair with tan or pink/maybe pants for a different look. You can put denim with anything. I wore blue platform sandals but flats would work or a unique slipper would be fun.
