It’s A Colorful Spring

Hello friends and Happy Wednesday!

I was thinking of all the bright colors in my closet this spring and had a little giggle reflecting back to the movie “Devil Wore Prada”- “florals for spring? Groundbreaking”! LOL! I think spring is always full of bright, fun colors but for some reason I’m really rocking them (no matter what Miranda Priestly says- I don’t need her permission, I don’t work for her!)

So I thought I would share two of this week’s fun bright spring looks that I love (closet shopping win)!

First I couldn’t resist going all purple/pink on Monday! Seriously, who can resist such fun colors! Purple is actually my favorite color (I might not own enough purple items, that’s something I would love to fix). I wore pink slacks with a pink/blue/purple plaid blouse from JCPenney along with my purple Walmart espadrilles and a super cute lavender bag I snagged from Target. (All of these items are budget friendly-my JCPenney shopping usually involves a discount or coupon and obviously my Walmart shoes are not breaking the bank 😉

I LOVED LOVED being all pink and purple…I think I was more cheerful and pleasant (ok the sun was shining too) but color really seems to make me happy.

Then yesterday I had to wear more COLOR! Specifically I wore my bright poppin yellow slack, a floral/striped blouse, my super cute yellow polka dot kitten heels and a bold pink bag! I was feeling very bright and happy! My slacks, blouse, and bag are all JCPenney (bag and blouse are old) and my heels are a special find from DSW about a month ago. So far I’m trying to wear them as often as possible as they are so super cute and very comfy.

I hope these colorful looks are inspiring to you and give you the courage to try something fun for yourself. Don’t be afraid to wear what you want. You might inspire someone else too!

Spring is for Pastels!

Hey friends!

Hello and Happy Wednesday!

I thought I would share a new fun color combination that I just love!

I follow (subscribe) to WhoWhatWear- it’s a really trendy fun line of clothing (some of which is carried by Target) but they have a big IG presence and always have fun articles on new trends or fun colors to wear.

One of the recent color combinations they highlighted that I love is mint green with red, pink or blue. I thought that was really fun and so creative!

Then the other day I was in JCPenney and discovered the cutest striped pastel blouse and of course I eventually decided to pair it with pastel pink slacks! So many fun pastels to brighten up the day! (Of course I had to wear pink sandals and a pink heart necklace along with my classic Betsy Johnson pink/cream bag with big bow!) I was feeling very understated today 😜

AND I LOVED IT! So try out the pastel trend for yourself! I think you will love it!

Mellow Yellow

Hello Friends and Happy Monday! You might ask, is Monday happy? How can that be? Well I didn’t have terrible traffic on the way to work, I was able to check all my emails and update my excel sheet before my two groups. I’m now able to create a blog post on my lunch hour, the sun is shining….that’s enough to make me happy! Actually, just the sunshine makes me happy, it’s been raining forever (I exaggerate a bit right?) LOL

So I wanted to share my discovery of the color yellow! I wore it a few times last summer but did not really throw myself into it. I just dipped my toe in the yellow shade with some other colors to balance it out. But this spring, I’m all in friends! ALL IN!

I discovered this awesome yellow (Pineapple-on the website) jacket and matching pants at JCPenney-Worthington and I was in love! Is it a lot of yellow? YES and that’s what makes it fun! It’s so bright and colorful you just can’t help but smile. I was deciding what to wear with it and I landed on this cute melon top (also JCPenney) that just makes all the yellow pop the more and added a melon lippie to go with it. I needed shoes too but have a white floral pump from OldNavy last year that is perfect with this spring look! (These items are also very affordable)

I got so many compliments that I was so happy I went out on a ledge to wear all yellow. It’s seriously the bomb and you will love the way you feel wearing all one bright color this spring! Try it out, you won’t regret!

The Color of the Year

Hello friends and Happy Wednesday!

Today I’m sharing the color of the year- Pantone color of the year 2019-Living Coral 🙂

This is an amazing color that I’m already having fun with. I originally bought a cardigan (a few years ago-it’s had it’s day unfortunately) but I found this cute light weight long sleeve top from Walmart (it ties on the side) and is so soft and lays in a really flattering way. I thought I would share my first pairing of this fun color!

I bought this embroidered jean jacket from Macys several years ago, the pants from Chicos last year, and the boots from Express last winter but I paired it with this bright bold hue because I am eager for spring! The pictures don’t look like spring is on it’s way any time soon but I love this color and it’s so flattering on those with my facial tones or darker hair. There are many variations of this color to match your own tones, so don’t be afraid to get out there and discover something new in this color family!

Lace and Straw=Spring

Hello Friends!

How are you all doing? How was your weekend? I had a wonderful weekend as I described in my previous post, but back at work this week. Mondays are hard, Tuesdays are manageable, Wednesdays aren’t as difficult, Thursdays are somewhat joyous, and Friday is a breeze…then I have my weekend and start all over again! (That’s my week in a nutshell LOL)

After the beautiful weather over the weekend, I craved wearing something springy, but noticed the storm clouds (of course, since I washed my car Thursday) but wanted to wear something that made me think of Spring! So that is what I’ve done!

I wore my super stretchy and comfy (yet trendy and fun) striped pants (link to this awesome pair of pants below) from Express along with last fall’s lace blouse (also Express) and I added a cute little bag I got a couple years ago on my vacation to South Carolina (purchased by my sister in law for me at Talbots! and it’s so cute and totally on trend right now! Have you seen all these straw/bamboo bags that everyone has and they totally make you think of a summer day!

I really want warm weather, I’m so tired of rain, wind, snow, and cold temps! I’m always like this Jan-April…seriously it happens every year! I get past Christmas and then I’m like…SICK OF BAD WEATHER….I WANT SUNSHINE….NOW! LOL

So there you have it, I’m tired of bad weather, I want what I want, right now! Who’s with me???

Biggest Easter Weekend Ever

Hello Friends!

How are all of you doing this fine Easter Sunday afternoon? I just finished the funnest, biggest, and busiest Easter Weekend Ever! I’ll tell you all about it.

Friday afternoon (4pm) our two oldest grandchildren came to sleep over, they are seven and six. We took them to A Wrinkle in Time (which btw, is a super boring movie….boring at the beginning and hard to understand, boring and odd, boring, and then terribly horrifying (our granddaughter was cowering in her seat and I could hear other children in the theatre crying-we almost left) and then it was odd/weird boring ending??? I wished we had taken them to something else.

We recovered the joy of the evening by painting 36 eggs that I had boiled previous to the disastrous movie event (we had paint and eggs and all kinds of crazy in my kitchen!) I made quite a few funny videos and will post a couple, they just crack me up. So by the time we were done painting eggs, it was (i’m sorry to say about 10pm) and the kiddies were still wired (it must have been the 28 oz slurpee we bought them at the theatre?? Let me tell you, that sugar lasts foreverrrrrr…..

It was somewhat difficult to get them to switch gears to sleep but eventually they did around midnight and up again at 7am! (I don’t have nearly that much energy, wish I did) LOL

Then we spent the early part of the day playing and listening to General Conference. Sometimes the children listened and sometimes they played, that’s normal 😉

At four pm, the rest of my children and grandchildren (the two- three year olds-missing the children and grandchildren out of state) came over for my two youngest children’s March birthday celebrations. Their birthdays are so close together, now that they’re adults we combine the celebration (they’ve said they don’t mind). I had made a chocolate cheesecake that morning to top it all off. We had a great time talking and laughing. The grandchildren enjoyed the great weather on Saturday, seriously a beautiful day.

FUDGE TRUFFLE CHEESECAKE (from Hershey’s recipe book)

CHOCOLATE CRUMB CRUST (RECIPE FOLLOWS)

2 cups (12 oz package) Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

3 packages cream cheese, softened (8 oz each)

1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

4 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  1. Prepare chocolate crumb crust. Heat oven to 300
  2. Place chocolate chips in microwave safe bow. Microwave at high (100%) 1 1/2 minutes; stir. If necessary, microwave at high an additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating just until chips are melted when stirred.
  3. Beat cream cheese in large bowl until fluffy. Gradually beat in sweetened condensed milk until smooth. Add melted chips, eggs, and vanilla; mix well Pour into prepared crust.
  4. Bake 1 hour and 5 minutes or until center is set. Remove from oven to wire rack. With knife, loosen cake from side of pan. Cool completely; remove side of pan. Refrigerate several hours before serving. Cover; refrigerate leftover cheesecake. (makes 10 to 12 servings).

Chocolate Crumb Crust: Stir together 1 1/2 cups vanilla wafer crumbs, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1/3 cup cocoa, 1/3 cup melted butter in bowl. Press firmly onto bottom of 9 inch springform pan.

Then today everyone came over again and we had Easter/General Conference brunch (we always make a big breakfast with specialty hash browns, tons of bacon, monkey bread -Rhodes rolls in a bundt pan with special carmely sauce- fried or scrambled eggs and juice) and sit down and watch conference. When everyone is done eating, we commence playing Bingo (laminated bingo boards with gospel ideas on each square-playing pieces are M&M’s) and when each person gets a Bingo, I’ve purchased dollar store prizes to promote listening to the speakers.

I’ve done this Bingo since my children were young, they always seemed to love it (I think the best prize we ever got was “Fart Putty” that we found in the dollar section of Target-it’s this silly putty type of stuff in a little plastic toilet and when a person sticks their finger in, it makes a farty sound)! You’ve never seen adults laugh so hard for so long. I’ve never found anything yet that was a bigger hit. A couple of years ago, I thought everyone was too old for Bingo and tried to do away with it, you’d think I cancelled Christmas there was such a protest! I guess it’s one of those family traditions that everyone has come to love.

During sessions of conference today we played a game my son owns, it’s called “Sequence” and is super fun. Our family loves to play games together, we are pretty competitive and the outcomes are usually hilarious especially with spoons, UNO, and Phase 10. We’ve always played games from the time they were little until now including the grandchildren; the 7 and 6 year old are great UNO players 😉

It was somewhat unusual to have the birthday dinner, grandchildren sleep over, General Conference Bingo and Easter all in one weekend but that’s how it happened and I think everyone had such a fun time. I’ll share some pictures below, I hope all of you had a wonderful Easter weekend. For me, it’s all about family  (LOVE)

Color=Happiness?

Hello Friends!

Oh my goodness my favorite day of the work week, Friday is upon us! I never really understood how much joy can be packed into one day (until it arrives and I’m almost giddy!) Happy end of the week, beginning of the weekend! Boom!

Another thing I realized made me happy is color. I don’t know if that sounds strange? Today I wore this vibrant red/blue/black patterned skirt from (H&M) and an (older) pink tee (Express)-paired with blue sandals (Nordstrom Rack), red bag (JCPenney) and bauble bright blue earrings (Sugarfix-Target-the bomb). I also had a red moto jacket this morning cause it was a wee bit chilly but not now. I realized that the shade of red in my bag and skirt has undertones of blue (that’s really what makes the blue work) and as I was sitting in the car, trapped on the freeway, I was mesmerized the beautiful colors. It’s almost as if I’m viewing beautiful spring flowers, that’s the only way I can describe it. Of course the sun is shining too and I singing at the top of my lungs to “Greatest Showman” soundtrack, so I’m pretty much nestling in the clouds with joy even though I’m trapped on the freeway going 10mph…so ironic right?? (This was my thought process-does this color make me happy?? I think so)

Those of you that wonder about my choice of music, YES I ATTENDED ANOTHER MOVIE LAST NIGHT…this is the third movie since last Saturday, and I feel like my MoviePass purchase was a good decision LOL!

Happy Friyay-Weekend!
