Predicting Fashion

Hello friends!

I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend! I did some last minute yard preparations yesterday for winter (and I do mean last minute) because it snowed today. 😂

Have you ever wondered what wardrobe items to buy each season? I’ve been thinking of this since I’ve done this blog for two years. There seem to be some recurrent themes unusually enough (“Florals in Spring…Groundbreaking”-Devil Wore Prada)

Usually in Fall, you will see sweaters in rich hues of brown, black, ivory, green, red, orange, and burgundy with pops of leopard, camo, and snakeprint on all separates, accessories and footwear.

In the winter look for sequins and glitter on anything! I’m of the opinion that you can wear sparkle anytime of the year but these items are most often found during the holidays. Faux fur is always a great choice in any color or print.

Spring calls for florals and fun stripes; bright and pastels colors are always to be found.

Summer comes shining in with shorts and silky kimonos, reds, blues, whites, more brights of pink, yellow, green, and violets.

Over the years I’ve noticed buying quality made pieces in these categories will last me year after year.

I have a pair of black sequin leggings I bought from Express two years ago (during the holidays) that I just love, but they come in and out of vogue depending on the time of year.

It’s interesting to note that styles/colors are pretty stable from each year to the next. Sometimes you just need an updated accessory to look fashionable and on trend.

Quest for Curtains

Hello friends!

Happy Sunday!

I’ve spent the last month and a half shopping online and brick/mortar for high quality yet also inexpensive black out curtains for my bedroom.

My redecorating is taking almost a whole year and this was one purchase I didn’t want to break the bank!

When we bought this home in 2008, I still worked graveyard shift while completing graduate school and we needed blackout curtains so I could sleep during the day. We got some ice blue curtains (matched our decor then) with a heavy lining from BED Bath and Beyond but honestly spent way too much on them and they did NOT block light like I wanted. But because we spent so much, I couldn’t make a change for a long time.

It’s been almost 12 years so I feel free to dump the old curtains! Yay!

I have searched Amazon, JcPenney, Walmart-several brands of curtains (sometimes not knowing if they would work-getting a package-opening one and draping then over the rod and they don’t block light-which has been super frustrating) and it’s really been a lengthy process!

Thank goodness for my patient husband-“what’s this charge to Amazon”? “Oh it’s more curtains, don’t know if its going to work” 🙁

But finally, one day returning my purchase from Amazon (conveniently through my local Kohl’s) I walked out of the store through their housewares/drapery aisle and saw another brand I hadn’t tried yet. They were “buy one get one 50% off” which was nice as they were a little more than the ones I had considered before. They didn’t have the color or length in store, so I ordered online. Hoping again, this would finally be the one that worked.

They came about a week later and EUREKA! They are excellent at blacking out all light! They are also a beige curtain so match my new tonal decor! (It’s ok for curtains to say they’re blackout if they are a dark color-like that’s so obvious! But a light color and blackout is tricky!

I’m so happy to share my find with you! The curtain is SUNZERO extreme theatre grade black out curtains

I hope this helps you! Saturday and Sunday mornings there is no light coming through and it also seems to insulate from sound. We had a terrible wind storm the other night and it did not keep me awake during the night-I could hardly hear it. These curtains are the best!

(The last picture is a before with old curtains)

Crop Tops (are for you)

Hey friends! Happy Sunday! I hope this post helps you ignore that tomorrow is Monday! 😊

I thought I would share something I discovered lately; it seems as if crop tops are making another splash into fashion. That is all fine and good if you are 24 (I used to think)-

A few months ago (really it was probably 6 months) I found the cutest crop tee -regular neckline) from Forever 21, it’s an army green with bold letters spelling “Chicago” and I just fell in love (plus it reminds me of my trip to this beautiful city)! It’s been in my drawer forever (you know I seldom get rid of clothes-just in case) and this week I was scrounging for something different to wear when I re discovered my crop tee!

Let me tell you how a crop tee works for someone my age…you wear high waisted jeans with it! And I also added a structured plaid jacket (I wore to work) so it seems very businesslike until you realize I’m wearing distressed denim and a crop top. It’s so fun!

I’m gonna keep my eyes open for more crop tops! (Think Forever 21- such a wallet friendly place) Be open to all kinds of styles no matter your age! You can make anything fit your own vibe!

I’m An Animal (print lover)

Hello Friends and happy Monday!

I’m done venting about my travel fails and on this Monday back to fashion blogging LOL!

I’ve noticed a lot of different animal prints are on the runway, in magazines, and on the sidewalk lately. I’ve added to my animal print collection in a few different ways.

I discovered two fun new pieces from Target the last two weeks. The first one is a leopard print jumper! It’s such a great piece and I wore it with my white sneakers on my fated flight to North Carolina last week, but don’t hold that against this cute jumper. It’s easy on/easy off, has a little stretch to the material, and zips up the front. It’s a super cute addition to your wardrobe at a great price-$30 ordered online.

My next piece is a darling faux fur leopard bag with gold metal handles. I discovered it in a North Carolina Target- (on a trip for essentials, doesn’t that always happen when traveling??) and I can’t wait to use it. It would be so cute with a floral top/distressed jeans or a floral dress with fun heels. I even think it would be gorgeous with my yellow suit! I’ll take pictures of some examples and add them to this post.

Don’t be afraid of leopard. It’s one trend that has been steady for years and years. Get yourself some pieces and have fun!

Fall into Style

Hello friends!

I thought I would share a fun summer look that would transition easily to fall!

I found this rust colored eyelet top from Target and fell in Love immediately! It has a elastic neck and sleeves and is so comfy. It is eyelet but not see through as sometimes happens with this material.

I wore it with my Kut from the Kloth jeans, leopard slides from TJMaxx, and leopard backpack from ASOS and it’s super cute! I think this top would also be cute with any type of animal print pants or skirt. The eyelet really pops and is so fun!

When the weather cools down, I will add my leopard booties and a cream or black cardigan or possibly a denim jacket and it would be very fun while still keeping you warm!

I love items that can transition to the next season! It makes them so much more fun to wear and I end up wearing these items with several different things.

Summer Dress Style

Hello friends!

How are is everyone’s summer going? Can you believe it’s August already?? The last two months have flown by for me!

Summer is always a great time for t shirts and shirts but have you considered wearing dresses to run errands, get groceries, or go to the park? Dresses can be be very breezy and help to keep you cool in the 🔥🔥 summer temps!

I found a super cute summer dress (of course from Target) and it almost looks like a jumper! It’s made of linen which is such a great summer material. It’s gathered in the front and has a cute bow. I wore mine with a red t shirt and red/white patterned slides which I think is super cute with my leopard bag!

I’ve previously wore this dress with a tight white tee and platform neutral sandals. I think both looks are fun!

You’ll notice I’ve got my new blonde wig (which BTW is working out excellently for me-I don’t have nearly the anxiety as I did with the first wig I wore. I’m a lot more comfortable with it now!)

A Dress as a Duster

Hello friends!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

I thought spring into summer might be a great time to share a way to wear two maxi button up dresses as Dusters!

The first one is a snakeprint collared dress from H&M that looks so fabulous as a duster with denim shorts and neutral t shirt and some fun heels! I love snakeprint and I swear you CAN wear it with anything! I never get tired of finding new ways to wear it! It’s so fun!

The next one is a denim dress (Target -not as long as the first dress) but an example of how you can take any button up dress and wear it a different way! Plus denim itself is so versatile! I paired this dress with black leggings/black t shirt with my cool athletic type blue/gray sandals (JCPenney).

Why don’t you try this fun look out for yourself and discover new ways to wear your dresses!
