Wow I hope everyone is staying warm! We had a huge snowstorm last night into today and there is about 8 inches of wet cold snow out there. Be safe too!
I’m continuing my thankful thrifting/shopping my closet today! This will be a regular feature until after Christmas. I hope you enjoy 🙂
Today I’m sharing a pink/gold/cream ensemble from last year and earlier this year. I snagged these gorgeous gold pull on pants from TJMaxx in July (In Jackson Hole when I was visiting family) and this cream knit top, leopard boots (last year), and scarf from Target this year. I always have a hard time thinking of something to put with these pants but until my thrifting thankful challenge, never had I ever thought of putting them with pink! It’s such a pretty combination don’t you think?
Just to make sure I was warm just in case things turned cold (this was last Thursday-I plan my pictures in advance) I wore my tan coat snagged in September from Oldnavy for like $5 (I had some rewards) and I stayed really warm because it did start to rain/snow.
I am really enjoying my thrifting challenge. Some people might think it’s not a real thrifting challenge because I’m not buying things at a thrift store, but I think it’s thrifty because I’m shopping my closet! It’s such a challenge but yet it’s so fun! And it let’s me focus on being thankful for what I have while also being aware of others needs around me. Win/win!
So friends, the next time you think you need to shop…just look around the corner in your closet 🙂
Hello friends! And welcome to another installment of my thriftiness/thankfulness marathon labeled as closet creativity! I hope my efforts to shop my closet help you think of ways you can also do the same!
Today I’m sharing a new (yet old) outfit I created from my closet and I really had some fun! First I snagged my blue floral pants by Loft (purchased last year or year before) a T shirt from Target, my striped cardigan (newer but not in the last two months) and I was stuck at what to do with my feet! These pants are normally a summer staple and wear with one or two open toe shoes but it’s not very warm although I still wanted to do something fun! Then I remembered my glitter pumps I purchased last year from White House Black Market and realized my cute patterned socks (Amazon) would match perfectly with the turquoise detail running through the pants!
All day I was mesmerized by the sparkle and floral of my shoes/socks/pants. I’m so glad I decided to shop my closet because I have somewhat forgot about these glitter pumps and it being the holiday season, glitter is so trendy and fun-not to mention adding the socks which is such a fun look I’ve seen on many of my favorite Instagrammers!
I have a typically difficult job as a therapist in a residential setting; most of my clients are difficult, complicated, and struggle with powerful mental illness and/or addiction. It’s normal for someone in my field to develop distractions or ways to make sure they don’t burn out. I have to say that my glitter heels were a much needed distraction the day I wore them.
Normally many people see fashion as frivolous and silly, but my blog, my Instagram, being creative with my closet, wearing glittery heels to work, this is what helps me avoid burn out and this friends: This Is Real World Problems.
Thanks for reading and being on my journey with me!the real world news
I thought I would start out the week right by sharing a recent shopping trip to my own closet!
I have a pink pleated skirt (Asos) a pink sweater (H&M) both from last year and I love pink! I got some inspiration from my friend @trinagrand to wear all one color as a bold styling tip. I paired my skirt and sweater with some glittery earrings (Charming Charlies), a leopard scarf (Target), and my leopard pumps (Oldnavy). All these items are at least a year old but they look new when paired together!
Monochromatic pairings are very chic and trendy right now and get a special boost with the leopard accessories and sparkle. I think it also gives me a special boost in confidence by just wearing these bold colors!
I am thinking of wearing this ensemble to hubs Christmas party in the next couple weeks; it will be cold so I might add my faux fur leopard coat, won’t that be festive??
I hope these next weeks of posts inspire you to SHOP YOUR CLOSET too!
How are you all doing? Did you survive Thanksgiving weekend and Black Friday?? I try to get a lot or most of my Christmas shopping done that weekend to spend more time enjoying the holiday season, but I still have six gifts left to purchase; which is not too bad out of 22 people we (me and hubs) have on our gift list this year. I am so blessed with a wonderful family and great friends that I am happy to be out shopping for them.
Although my thanksgiving was less than ideal (see my “Thanksgiving Debacle” post) I am still very thankful for time with my family (husband, children, grandchildren) and to have days off from work. It was a much needed break.
In pondering thankfulness, I want to focus my next month of posts (from now until Christmas) on styling clothing items I already have, instead of new items. I think this thankfulness will challenge me to be creative with the clothing I have and push me to think more outside the box in using my older items! Think: Shop Your Closet!
So let the days of thriftiness and thanksgiving begin!! Join me if you would like; comment how you will be participating in my special thankfulness leading up to Christmas!
Hello friends! And happy Wednesday! Sometimes I get overwhelmed on Monday (it seems a lot to get three groups accomplished between Monday-Tuesday) but this week I had more energy and not so overwhelmed. It might be I’m having a Cabi party on Thursday and Saturday traveling to St George Utah to see “Thriller” at Tuacahn Amphitheater. So yeah I’m super excited this week!
But I wanted to share one secret of dressing for fall and I promised to share my super affordable coat from OldNavy ($10).
My friend ANNE (!) found this amazing jumper on clearance ($7) at Target but unfortunately (for her) it didn’t fit and she passed it on to me. It fits me perfect and I used a strip of leather as a belt along with a nude t shirt and cognac heels (these cheap from OldNavy too).
Now it’s been super cold in the morning but warmer later in the afternoon so this morning I’ll be wearing my gorgeous new taupe (cheap) trench type jacket from OldNavy and the taupe really pops with the jumper underneath. It’s such a fun combination.
I hope this idea helps you think of ways you can also dress for fall (cold in morning and warm afternoons)! It doesn’t have to be so hard ❤️ plus you can do it very affordably!
Hello friends! (Happy almost Wednesday)! You and I have almost made it through the week! I’m so proud, it’s so hard 😂
I’ve noticed that I can clean my closet, be so organized I should get an Oscar, and have a plan for my outfit the next day… but somehow by the end of two days I’ve got the makings of several outfits clumped together and all my previous planning and organization appears to be a waste of time. 😳
Saturday I even tried several things on and took pictures to remind myself of what I liked together (things that seem new but shopping my closet- which actually makes me feel like Wonder Woman-REALLY) and I felt so productive and had a sense of accomplishment….and today my closet is messy.
WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO!? Why can’t I maintain my closet?? These are my odd and obviously very important thoughts this Tuesday evening. I’m open to feedback…maybe LOL!
before:after: (obviously a fictional depiction and not my actual closet cause I’m embarrassed!) 😂🤣
Happy Thursday and almost Friday! (am I getting ahead of myself??) You guys know I love me a weekend (I won’t have a weekend this week cause I have a work training but that is another post full of my thoughts LOL)
You all know I’m a stalker of all things fashion and that includes NYFW (New York Fashion Week). It’s such a cool time to see what new trends are out there and what I have in my closet that is similar. I think that is a fun adventure!
I follow WhoWhatWear on IG and during Fashion Week, one of their editors (?) Kat Collins was all dressed up and going to some event. I thought her look darling and l looked up the pants she wore and they are from Shopbop for $750…yes $750 dollars for a pair of pants….Whoa, that’s like a house payment! Sheesh, I aint got that kind of money for a pair of pants and if I did, should I pay that much for a pair of pants??
So anyway, I thought, well I can copy her look (sort of) without spending that much and make it lots of fun right??
I first started with a pair of leggings I purchased in January from Rue21 on clearance for I think $10 (honestly that’s more my speed), and I tried to figure out what kind of top to pair with it…her sweater has some fun details although just gray. I eventually discovered an old LulaRoe shirt in a gray/white print that I thought looked amazing with these pants (had some personality) except structure of the shirt is LulaRoe; it’s kind of baggy and ties in the front. I needed my shirt to be more fitted and shorter. So I got out my 36 year old sewing machine at 7:45 am to try some alterations by 8:30am… (you can already see my problem)
I took in both sides of the shirt and attempted to hem it, although my machine keeps clogging up and knotting underneath, possibly some mechanical malfunction because I re threaded it several times, got a new needle, etc but no go. Needless to say, I still went to work because I AM NOT A QUITTER! LOL
So I paired my $10 leggings with an old Lularoe shirt, some bejeweled velvet mules from Target and my black circle bag. Oh I also wore my wayyyy tassel red earrings along with bold eye makeup and bold red lips! I do not do things half way!
I’m attaching pictures of the original outfit and then mine. Hopefully you can see ways to incorporate runway trends at home (by the way, I’m still looking for a bedazzled black drawstring purse just to up my game) Happy weekend friends!
Hello Friends and Happy Wednesday (almost halfway through our week!)
How are you all doing? I talk to you as if you are right here and we are face to face 🙂
I’m actually quite cheery today despite some sadness over the weekend. I think I must be recovering or the joy of halfway through the week is pushing me up the hill? Who knows!
I wore some Neon the other day and thought to share because it’s so fun! I got this shirt (seriously some time ago, was it three years? I was shopping at Burlington Coat Factory -I think in Nampa Idaho with my sisssy Tenae) so it’s not a new shirt but such a fun color.
Recently I found some real cute tie front pants at JCPenney, they’re kind of a nylon/rayon material-have a sheen and are so pretty (was 40% off I believe) so I got at a smoking price- I think $20.
I had so much fun pairing these pants with my neon shirt, my pink heels, pink sparkly earrings, and a pink wall! I was in such a PINK mood and my neon shirt just seemed to hit it off in a very friendly way with the pink! I was super excited to find a new friend for my old blouse 🙂
Don’t be afraid to wear bold or bright colors! They’re so trendy right now (well always for me, I love bold and bright)!
Happy Wednesday friends!

Hello Friends and happy Friday! How fun is it to have a four day work week? I know that a five day week is not really much different than a four day but somehow it makes everything amazing!
The last little while I have been closet shopping (my own, shh) LOL! I’ve been trying to create new combinations with clothes and accessories I already have! I thought I would share a few with you 🙂
First: I went almost all PINK! It’s so fun! I combined a striped pink ruffle sleeve shirt and red/pink floral with black background skirt (both from my Target) and pink sandals with pink earrings that I got for my daughter’s wedding last June. It’s a new fun combination and I love all the pink.
Second: I think summer calls for dresses and I love this maxi that I got for our cruise in January. I paired it with my white jean jacket and some white earrings but added some pop with this fun floral (cutout) bag from Target (again right??). I think this adds punch to the dress which is a lot of blue just worn by itself.
Third: I reached for a fun although unusual pink/purple/black/white printed sort of floral blouse (also Target-last year) and snagged my stretchy black/white patterned pants (Kohl’s last year) but added my circle bag and fun earrings from Target this year! I thought it a fun score!
Fourth: I combined old floral pants (Target of course-me and Target, what’s the deal there??) with a white T and a destroyed jean jacket (Forever21-not new), along with some yellow earrings and of course, my circle bag. (I just love this circle bag, I don’t know if you can tell).
There ya go, four new outfits with flair from mostly another season with a couple of updates! Don’t be afraid to do something different; spend some time in your closet and you might find some new inspiration!
Happy Friday friends and thanks for reading!
I was so excited this morning!
I wanted to wear my yellow blouse, actually it’s more gold. Yellow is such a trendy and fun color lately; it’s a color you can combine with almost anything but I wanted a new combination! (That’s so unlike me right??)
But it’s unreasonable to always have a new outfit! It’s more fun to be creative and create something new out of clothes I already have.
I’ve also seen (online and in magazines) many outfits combining pajama pants in every day outfits! Who would think?? Trust me, it’s cute though.
I realized I had a pair of striped pants (I bought a couple years ago in South Carolina-at Tommy Bahama) and my daughter always told me they looked like pajama pants! Haha!
So I combined my Tommy Bahama pants and my yellow JCPenney blouse along with tan sandals from Old Navy-Score! I have a new outfit and appears to be pajama pants!
Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think or if you want to try it out yourself!
