Cara Mia Halloween

Oh hi friends!

I so wanted to share my Halloween style this year! It was a crazy few weeks but it all came together and I was so excited!!

So a couple months ago, you might remember I changed my hair and got super long extensions which made me think of Morticia Addams- one of my favorite Halloween characters- she is so chic yet deathly dramatic that’s I just love her and had to be her for Halloween!

Lucky for me, hubs is a good sport and agreed to be Gomez Addams also! (Coincidentally my oldest daughter planned to be Wednesday Addams!) (I got my dress and hubs costume from Amazon!)

The makeup was tricky and I watched several YouTube videos on Morticia’s makeup until I found one I liked. The day before Halloween and the day of -I wore my makeup to take pictures with my daughter and then to take less time getting ready Halloween night.

I purchased cheap foundation at the grocery store- the fairest I could find and my face (read:rosacea) did not like the drug store brand and both days appeared (close up) fairly irritated and peeling and red) but luckily has not continued since that day. It seems back to normal with my regular Estée Lauder Doublewear in Light Beige which is really soothing for my skin and lasts throughout my long days.

Here are our two pictures of The Addams family, first with Morticia and Wednesday; then with Gomez and ‘Tish… you’re gonna love this as much as I did!!(This might even be my Christmas card picture)

Fashion Addicted Self Care

Hey friends!

How was your Monday? Glad it’s over??? Me too LOL

Last week I took a values assessment (work related) and I discovered in four values areas: work, relationships, leisure, and personal growth-health that I am lacking in the leisure area. Who knew??

I graded myself two dots away from “bullseye” in work and relationships but then realized I work pretty hard and am dedicated- along with being connected in the vital relationships in my life- so I thought that might be a judgement of myself.

I graded two dots away from bullseye in personal growth/health because of my nasty fall on my bicycle that still gives me a little grief (my knees at times), but I realized I was quite farther off the leisure bullseye so I committed to do several things this week: read for personal enjoyment, scrapbook a couple of pages, load some pictures and articles on my family history site and in those ways find more creativity and relaxation than I have lately.

Guess what books I got….

friends I’m so excited! Devil Wore Prada is one of my favorite movies so I got almost halfway done with the book today! It’s such fun! I loved the comedy, the actors, the lines, and ooh baby- the clothes. I snagged Chasing Harry Winston just because it’s by the same author, I’ll let you know what I think!

I saw Oceans 8 the day it came out and my favorite thing was the clothes. I notice clothes a lot in movies. I’m just a fashion addict doing some self care that doesn’t have anything to do with fashion………LOL

Thanks for reading friends ❤️

Parking Lot Shenanigans

Hey Everyone!

Happy Friday and weekend! I wonder if any of you have sweet plans this weekend? I’m on call, so I’m staying close to my cell phone but hopefully things will be smooth 😉

Yesterday I WAS NOT ON CALL, so me and hubs lived it up with some of our married children and grandchildren! Our married son and daughter in law gave hubs an evening of bowling and so that’s how our fun started out! There were six of us in total, and I ended up winning (121)- still not a great score but it’s better than I did last time so that’s good!

Then we ate at Costa Vida which has a location right at the bowling alley. After that the little kids were getting pretty tired and they called it a night but I talked hubs into taking me to a movie! Jurassic World! Whee! (I didn’t like it as much as the previous Jurassic Park movie but really I got out and did something so that’s most important 😉

Although we had some struggles in the parking lot! We couldn’t find anywhere to park and so I suggested hubs drop me off and I would check in on our MoviePass app with both our phones….interestingly enough after I got out of the car I realized I left my phone in the car but spent the next ten minutes chasing after hubs car in the parking lot but he never did see me! He is driving away and I’m running behind him trying to catch him….he didn’t see me and turned down another lane, I went through cards and tried to get his attention but he didn’t see me again and this happened about four more times until he parked! Picture this woman running up and down the parking lot waving her hands and yelling! Yeah that was me! Hubs needs a new windshield if he can’t see me chasing after him! LOL

Running through the parking lot, I blended in with the asphalt with my black/white/gray/edgy outfit! It’s my high waist-wide leg striped pants by Express, my graphic Beatles Tee, my gray mini shoulder bag, and my white wedge sandals by JCPenney (at the movie theatre I had changed into flip flops-thus I could run hahaha and I got about 1000 steps so there’s that) and a new edgy eye shadow look inspired by an advertisement I saw on Instagram!

Hope your weekend is wonderful friends!

Weekend Revival

Hello friends!

So this weekend I got to lay in bed after six am twice!! I think it’s so peaceful to wake up naturally:) (granted I did wake up sweating at 1am but I’m pretty sure that had to do with yesterday being the hottest day so far (freaking AC is not on) and NOT me waking naturally LOL).

Even though I was very busy yesterday: grandson basketball game, lunch with kids, grocery shopping, wash car, organizing my pantry and putting in shelves, laundry mat to wash huge mattress pad and pillows, but at the end of the day I felt very accomplished (Celebrated by watching 2nd Avengers!) I even found time to discover a new pair of fringe sandals and circle bag at Target (while looking for shelves!) so I really think as I accomplished stuff on my list, I gradually de stressed and was able to find something cute!!

What a great weekend! (I hope your weekend was lovely too and thanks so much for reading my random weekly thoughts!)

Shopping blues

Hello friends!

I’ve had a weird experience lately, I’ll cal it the shopping blues.

I went to Marshall’s, JCPenney, Target, and Old Navy and only found one blouse that I really liked. I got the one at OldNavy but sheesh am I depressed?? Really only find one thing to buy?

Granted I didn’t hit H&M or Ann Taylor but not a ton of time as I had an eye appointment yesterday after I got off work. Maybe I wasn’t really putting my whole effort into the experience?

Sometimes that happens to me and I think maybe I’m overwhelmed with work and need to watch some movies, go for a walk, get my toe nails done, play with grandkids, chat with friends, more movies, sleep in, garden, (maybe do my laundry and clean- not necessarily) -that’s my plan of self care and I think I’ll be back online shopping in no time 😜

Biggest Easter Weekend Ever

Hello Friends!

How are all of you doing this fine Easter Sunday afternoon? I just finished the funnest, biggest, and busiest Easter Weekend Ever! I’ll tell you all about it.

Friday afternoon (4pm) our two oldest grandchildren came to sleep over, they are seven and six. We took them to A Wrinkle in Time (which btw, is a super boring movie….boring at the beginning and hard to understand, boring and odd, boring, and then terribly horrifying (our granddaughter was cowering in her seat and I could hear other children in the theatre crying-we almost left) and then it was odd/weird boring ending??? I wished we had taken them to something else.

We recovered the joy of the evening by painting 36 eggs that I had boiled previous to the disastrous movie event (we had paint and eggs and all kinds of crazy in my kitchen!) I made quite a few funny videos and will post a couple, they just crack me up. So by the time we were done painting eggs, it was (i’m sorry to say about 10pm) and the kiddies were still wired (it must have been the 28 oz slurpee we bought them at the theatre?? Let me tell you, that sugar lasts foreverrrrrr…..

It was somewhat difficult to get them to switch gears to sleep but eventually they did around midnight and up again at 7am! (I don’t have nearly that much energy, wish I did) LOL

Then we spent the early part of the day playing and listening to General Conference. Sometimes the children listened and sometimes they played, that’s normal 😉

At four pm, the rest of my children and grandchildren (the two- three year olds-missing the children and grandchildren out of state) came over for my two youngest children’s March birthday celebrations. Their birthdays are so close together, now that they’re adults we combine the celebration (they’ve said they don’t mind). I had made a chocolate cheesecake that morning to top it all off. We had a great time talking and laughing. The grandchildren enjoyed the great weather on Saturday, seriously a beautiful day.

FUDGE TRUFFLE CHEESECAKE (from Hershey’s recipe book)

CHOCOLATE CRUMB CRUST (RECIPE FOLLOWS)

2 cups (12 oz package) Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

3 packages cream cheese, softened (8 oz each)

1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

4 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  1. Prepare chocolate crumb crust. Heat oven to 300
  2. Place chocolate chips in microwave safe bow. Microwave at high (100%) 1 1/2 minutes; stir. If necessary, microwave at high an additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating just until chips are melted when stirred.
  3. Beat cream cheese in large bowl until fluffy. Gradually beat in sweetened condensed milk until smooth. Add melted chips, eggs, and vanilla; mix well Pour into prepared crust.
  4. Bake 1 hour and 5 minutes or until center is set. Remove from oven to wire rack. With knife, loosen cake from side of pan. Cool completely; remove side of pan. Refrigerate several hours before serving. Cover; refrigerate leftover cheesecake. (makes 10 to 12 servings).

Chocolate Crumb Crust: Stir together 1 1/2 cups vanilla wafer crumbs, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1/3 cup cocoa, 1/3 cup melted butter in bowl. Press firmly onto bottom of 9 inch springform pan.

Then today everyone came over again and we had Easter/General Conference brunch (we always make a big breakfast with specialty hash browns, tons of bacon, monkey bread -Rhodes rolls in a bundt pan with special carmely sauce- fried or scrambled eggs and juice) and sit down and watch conference. When everyone is done eating, we commence playing Bingo (laminated bingo boards with gospel ideas on each square-playing pieces are M&M’s) and when each person gets a Bingo, I’ve purchased dollar store prizes to promote listening to the speakers.

I’ve done this Bingo since my children were young, they always seemed to love it (I think the best prize we ever got was “Fart Putty” that we found in the dollar section of Target-it’s this silly putty type of stuff in a little plastic toilet and when a person sticks their finger in, it makes a farty sound)! You’ve never seen adults laugh so hard for so long. I’ve never found anything yet that was a bigger hit. A couple of years ago, I thought everyone was too old for Bingo and tried to do away with it, you’d think I cancelled Christmas there was such a protest! I guess it’s one of those family traditions that everyone has come to love.

During sessions of conference today we played a game my son owns, it’s called “Sequence” and is super fun. Our family loves to play games together, we are pretty competitive and the outcomes are usually hilarious especially with spoons, UNO, and Phase 10. We’ve always played games from the time they were little until now including the grandchildren; the 7 and 6 year old are great UNO players 😉

It was somewhat unusual to have the birthday dinner, grandchildren sleep over, General Conference Bingo and Easter all in one weekend but that’s how it happened and I think everyone had such a fun time. I’ll share some pictures below, I hope all of you had a wonderful Easter weekend. For me, it’s all about family  (LOVE)
