Summer Hair (I got a wig)

Hello friends and happy weekend!

I know I told you I would share my wardrobe tricks while on vacation in Peru, but something else happened!

While in Peru, I wore my two halo pieces every day until about 9pm. Normally at home I take them both off when I get off work. I do this because one piece attaches on top of my head with a monofilament wire, although maybe the hair is too heavy because this wire has been digging into my head, leaving a dent and sometimes causes my scalp to bleed. It’s been painful.

I’ve been wearing both of my halo pieces daily because for the last several months, my hair has been falling out at a terrific pace. It might be stress that made it worse, I honestly don’t know.

So I’ve been thinking of getting another wig. My hair loss was bad about 3 years ago and I got a wig then (it’s a short one though) and I’ve really got attached to long hair. It’s so fun!

So yesterday after work, I went to a local wig store called “Creative Wigs and Hair Replacement”. It’s a new store from the one I visited a few years ago, but I’ve learned since then not to be afraid of a wig store. The employees are so kind and just there to help women or men. (I think most women wear wigs due to hair loss and the employees are so sweet, some of them experiencing the same thing)

I was originally trying to find a wig similar to my halo (s). I tried on several. I think the human hair wigs were very nice and look super natural although they are VERY expensive -$2500. So I thought that was out of the market.

But then I tried on a really cute wig, it’s a tiny bit shorter, still long hair, kind of a beachy type of style……and it’s blonde!

So… I decided I love it and it doesn’t hurt my head! Yay! I also don’t have to worry about my hair loss because with a wig I don’t depend on my hair to hold the thing in place. I’m super happy and wanted to share my new look with you! Plus it’s summer and that calls for lighter hair! Now I just have to figure out how my drastic hair color change will work with my clothes! πŸ˜‚ first world problems am I right??

Happy summer everyone!

If any of you are struggling with this same thing, hair loss- please know there are lots of options and it helps so much. Don’t be afraid to visit your local hair/wig store! Be brave ❀️

Cara Mia Halloween

Oh hi friends!

I so wanted to share my Halloween style this year! It was a crazy few weeks but it all came together and I was so excited!!

So a couple months ago, you might remember I changed my hair and got super long extensions which made me think of Morticia Addams- one of my favorite Halloween characters- she is so chic yet deathly dramatic that’s I just love her and had to be her for Halloween!

Lucky for me, hubs is a good sport and agreed to be Gomez Addams also! (Coincidentally my oldest daughter planned to be Wednesday Addams!) (I got my dress and hubs costume from Amazon!)

The makeup was tricky and I watched several YouTube videos on Morticia’s makeup until I found one I liked. The day before Halloween and the day of -I wore my makeup to take pictures with my daughter and then to take less time getting ready Halloween night.

I purchased cheap foundation at the grocery store- the fairest I could find and my face (read:rosacea) did not like the drug store brand and both days appeared (close up) fairly irritated and peeling and red) but luckily has not continued since that day. It seems back to normal with my regular EstΓ©e Lauder Doublewear in Light Beige which is really soothing for my skin and lasts throughout my long days.

Here are our two pictures of The Addams family, first with Morticia and Wednesday; then with Gomez and ‘Tish… you’re gonna love this as much as I did!!(This might even be my Christmas card picture)

Real Talk about Hair Loss

Hello friends!

I thought today would be somewhat different. I want to share my experience with hair loss.

In 2012 I was diagnosed with Hashimotos disease and my thyroid surgically removed. Back in 2004 I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and I think things went downhill (health wise) after that, although the last couple of years have not been bad. I’ve struggled with low energy, low motivation, anxiety, depression, muscle aches, weight gain, digestion problems, menstrual problems, mood swings, hair loss, hair thinning, skin problems, insomnia, irritability….yada yada…seems like the list goes on and on…(oh and forgetfulness or brain fog).

In 2016 I started seeing a naturepath and eating gluten free. I also discovered being soy free has benefits; along with taking natural supplements and hormones. Early 2018 my hair started falling out and I reduced my thyroid medication a tad along with adding Zinc and Iron to my supplemental regime (along with special shampoo, which BTW DOES NOT WORK). For a few months my hair stopped falling out and I felt encouraged.

A few weeks ago, my hair began falling out again and who knows what the problem is this time. I don’t think I can go lower on my thyroid medication and it might be something nutritional IDK! Anyway I sort of felt like shaving my head, really it would be less stressful to worry about my hair falling out. I think it would be easier to wear a wig and just whip that thing on every morning. It sure would take the complication out of getting ready every day….:)

I told one of my cute IG friends about my ideas and she just happens to sell Halo Couture. It’s an easy apply hair extensions products. Human hair is woven into a type of hat thing that lays right above your neck with a invisible wire going over the top of your head. It really is amazing.

She just happened to have some at her house so I popped over and tried on two items: an 18″ Halo and a topper (fits on top of my head to create the look of fullness), both in dark brown. I was feeling a need to change, had been contemplating shaving my head and getting a wig but buying these two options would allow me to continue keeping my hair whatever happens and the two pieces together make my hair look very full! After I tried them on, I was hooked and my worry assuaged. (I was also super sick of curling my hair every day, cause my own hair is very fine and thin; doesn’t keep a curl and would not match my previous Halo if I didn’t curl it). These two new Halo’s are straight. Win for me, win for my hair! For right now I’m not shaving my head, I just got hair four inches longer than before!

So if anyone out there is struggling with thinning hair or hair loss due to aging or disease or hormones, please don’t be discouraged. There is a lot you can do these days to address or hide hair loss and it doesn’t have to devastate your life. I know the last few weeks I’ve been kind of freaking out cause I thought my hair loss was changing for the better. Realizing it’s not and that my disease will go back and forth between healing and attack (autoimmune disease) can be discouraging and feel hopeless.

Please if you have any questions for me, let me know. Don’t be overwhelmed by it all.

Hair today…?

Hello friends and happy weekend! I hope you’re enjoying wherever you are! Isn’t summer weather wonderful?? (Personally I’m very fond of weekends AND summer)

I had a scary experience on Thursday! I got my hair trimmed 😳! Years ago when I had short hair, I got it trimmed about every 4 weeks. Since I’ve been growing my hair long- I’m kind of afraid 😱 of getting it trimmed!

Now I know what other long haired women go through! It’s such an odd experience!

I haven’t got a trim since January and really want my hair to be healthy and bouncy (as much as possible- I lost a great deal of hair last year when my thyroid medication was off) so my ends are terribly thin but the middle and top are filling out- I wear a Halo Couture to fill in for the hair I’ve lost (at least that’s what my hairdresser says and she’s not typically a liar πŸ˜‚) so I knew it was time for a trim.

After my hairdresser dyed my roots and stuck me to BURN πŸ˜‚ under the dryer, she washed/conditioned/combed my hair getting it ready for trim. I had to look down or to the side for a few minutes as she trimmed (I’ve never had this long of hair since I started seeing her- it feels weird sometimes) but as she finished I realized I had been holding my breath! Worried she would cut off too much! I laughed at myself realizing all of a sudden I was part of the long hair club!

I’ve always heard my friends talk about this phenomenon but never personally experienced it as my hair was always short!

It’s a new day! Milestones and adventures abound I’m telling you! (Pics below of the great color job my stylist did! Love her!)
