Dressing for Fall Weather

Hello Friends and Happy Wednesday!

We are nearly halfway through our work week! I do enjoy my work and I also enjoy my weekends, how about you? I love remembering it’s halfway!

I thought it would be fun to describe what I do to plan for a fall day that is 36 in the morning and 65 in the afternoon- 65 is such a mild temperature and could even pass for short sleeve shirts but the morning would not.

Something I try to do is layer….I wear my coat in the morning so I’m not freezing; then when I get to work I shed that but lots of times have a cardigan over a short sleeve shirt or light long sleeve shirt so I’m not too haute! (Remember my last post when I forgot and wore a huge sweater LOL)!

Today I tried something new for me, I wore a bright orange tank top but paired it with my leopard cardigan. So my arms are bare under the cardigan and it’s not too warm in my office or outside but perfect with the cardigan over the top! I also think it will work well in the afternoon because my cardigan sleeves are not a heavy blend.

I got my tank originally about four years ago from Nordstrom Rack and it’s such a pretty color, it deserves a rotation in my wardrobe. This is also super affordable; thrifting or shopping our closets are the most economical and ecologically friendly things we can do. The cardigan is fairly new, (I’ve been searching forever for a leopard cardigan) and it’s from Chicos, but I’m guessing it will last for years. I’ve had items from Chicos before and am still wearing them years later, so it’s definitely a piece to keep in my closet. I added some fun earrings that interestingly enough are fairly old (affordable) but also Chicos but look fun with the tank and cardigan; I wore some pre destructed jeans that fit my butt well from Nordstrom (Kut) and my boot like shoes from Target.

Here I am, ready for any weather that might pop up this time of year! And I’m shopping my closet! So this is a win win!

Have a great week friends!

One Dress Several Ways

Hello friends and happy Monday eve! (Generally no one looks forward to Monday so I hope you hear my tongue in cheek tone!) 🤣

On Labor Day I snagged some sweet deals from Chicos at 50% off and I thought I would share one special vibrant pink dress!

It’s actually a magenta made of ponte knit. It has wonderful button details down the sleeves and it fits really well! Ponte is such a long wearing material which almost acts like a shaper itself. It’s such a great choice for this dress.

Today I wore it with my leopard heels (they’re old from Old Navy) When the weather cools down I’ll include my leopard cardigan also from Chicos.

It’s such a fun dress that I added another way to wear it! I bought a zebra print ruana (check out the pretty details) from Chicos too and added it to my dress while switched out my leopard heels for gray suede booties (these are also old- bought from Nordstrom Rack maybe three years ago).

I hope you like these different options for such a vibrant flattering dress! I really do like the magenta shade!

Grateful Streak Continues…..

Hello Friends!

If you’re new to reading my blog, I’ve dedicated my last three or so weeks to shopping my closet instead of new wardrobe items to focus on gratitude before Christmas.

Today I’m sharing several things: First I had a somewhat lengthy and irritating debate with a client yesterday (he might not be willing or open to change) which can be normal in my field….yet….I have all these resources, education, training, and support which could help my client and it is super frustrating if someone is in front of this wonderful buffet and not willing to eat. GRRR that ticks me off, especially when I care about a client.  So yesterday after the lengthy, complicated, and challenging debate, I thought to myself….I wouldn’t be the therapist I am today without my challenging teenagers from the past. Boy we had our challenges and honestly there really is not a name a client can call me that I think (pbsttt, I’ve heard worse!) Which is actually really helpful as a therapist. I’ve had experiences with my own children that at times mimic what my clients or their parents struggle and it’s helped me a great deal.

So I called my daughter last night and said thank you for doing what you did as a teenager and being the smart a$$ she still is, she said “Your welcome” LOL, we had a good laugh but all seriousness, all these experiences I’ve had…some terrible, some painful, some difficult, some so daunting…have all benefitted me personally and as a therapist. For that I am truly thankful.

I’m also thankful that yesterday hubs and I purchased him a new car (it’s actually used, but you know what I mean). I’ve never seen him so happy (his old car has 250,000 miles, so many things don’t work anymore). I’m so thankful that together, we can get him a car to make him happy and make his work life and commute more enjoyable and dependable. How blessed am I???

Now for my regularly scheduled fashion gratitude post:

I’ve had most of these items some time: my black long sleeve shirt from Costco, beaded jacket and layered necklace from Chicos, gray jeans from Express, and leopard boots and faux fur coat from Target. I never thought about pairing the typical way I wear this jacket along with the leopard, but the leopard just makes everything pop in a new way! The different textures between faux fur, embroidered/embellished jacket, and layered necklaces is so luxe. Seriously I’ve had this jacket and layered necklace for at least five years, I’m guessing. How fun is it to wear anew??

CLOSET SHOPPING IS DEFINITELY PAYING OFF RIGHT???!

More Closet Shopping!

Hello friends!

How are you all today? I hope you are staying warm! It was 16 degrees here yesterday! Brrrrrrrr…..

I discovered more ways to shop my closet-actually close to the same outfit but for two events. One is a Sunday outfit and the other I wore to work.

Sunday I wore my blue/cream striped shirt from Oldnavy, my lavender cardigan from Target, a black patterned skirt from Macy’s, and OTK boots also from Macys. I added a purple necklace from Chicos. The OTK boots kept me warm at church and I think it’s a fun look from my closet.

The very next day (yes I wear the same clothes twice in a row! LOL Sometimes it’s just too fun to change!) I wore my blue striped top again, my lavender cardigan, but added a blue/purple patterned scarf from Target, destroyed girlfriend jeans from Express, and my snakeprint boots from Target. AND I couldn’t resist wearing purple lipstick!

I had so much fun with the basic shirt and cardigan! Blue and purple are such fun color pairs! It’s important to remember art class when creating outfits. Purple is a combination of blue and red, so blue and purple will always compliment each other! Plus purple is my favorite color….you might notice that from my logo 🙂

I hope you enjoyed another installment of shopping my closet! Stay tuned for more and Happy Hump Day friends!

Fashion for Fall

Hello friends! And happy Wednesday! Sometimes I get overwhelmed on Monday (it seems a lot to get three groups accomplished between Monday-Tuesday) but this week I had more energy and not so overwhelmed. It might be I’m having a Cabi party on Thursday and Saturday traveling to St George Utah to see “Thriller” at Tuacahn Amphitheater. So yeah I’m super excited this week!

But I wanted to share one secret of dressing for fall and I promised to share my super affordable coat from OldNavy ($10).

My friend ANNE (!) found this amazing jumper on clearance ($7) at Target but unfortunately (for her) it didn’t fit and she passed it on to me. It fits me perfect and I used a strip of leather as a belt along with a nude t shirt and cognac heels (these cheap from OldNavy too).

Now it’s been super cold in the morning but warmer later in the afternoon so this morning I’ll be wearing my gorgeous new taupe (cheap) trench type jacket from OldNavy and the taupe really pops with the jumper underneath. It’s such a fun combination.

I hope this idea helps you think of ways you can also dress for fall (cold in morning and warm afternoons)! It doesn’t have to be so hard ❤️ plus you can do it very affordably!

Wardrobing Shorts!

Hello friends and happy Sunday!

I’ve been having some fun with shorts. I touched on it in a previous post but I’m seeing something different with this one.

I’ve wore a few different outfits combining shorts with what are essentially cardigans (although each are somewhat different).

I have a pair of distressed jean shorts that I’ve combined two different ways (and will continue to experiment)

1. I wore my shorts with a purple/tan/turquoise top covered with a tan cardigan and sandals.

2. I wore my shorts with a white Tee and a plaid/tweed structured jacket, white sandals and a blue snakeskin bag.

3. I wore my white jean shorts with my white tee again and a brightly colored kimono along with white sandals and my black circle bag.

I’ve discovered it is fun and different to combine my shorts (typically a summer or casual item) with jackets or cardigans to create something unique and fun! If I could give some advice, it would be to throw away “rules” of fashion or the way you’ve always done things and have a little fun! I’m going to keep seeing what else I can get away with- by wearing shorts. Who knows right??!

Affordable Fashion

Hello friends!

I discovered something the last week or so: I follow several popular ladies on IG and I realized one I follow that used to tag affordable fashion is not doing so much anymore. I think she might be getting too popular (?) or too many followers (?) and is now linking outfits (Kate Spade for example) that are just gorgeous but not attainable for the every day woman.

I can’t afford, except for an unusual occasion (see once every few years) a $250 dress and I get frustrated following people that link items that are super expensive ($$$). I would rather pay less for clothes.

So I thought I would share a couple of inexpensive items that are trendy now but super cheap!

I perused several stores looking for a white jean jacket and lite pink jeans. JCPenney has both for around $80 with a 20% coupon. But the next day I found both these items (jacket and jeans) at Old Navy for (think it was $51). There was a sign above the jackets showing them 50% off so I got the jacket for 20! Typically you can also find coupons for OldNavy or you might have rewards and it’s even cheaper.

I saw someone else wearing something similar except higher prices at a high end store. I don’t need high end items; I love to find great deals so I thought I would pass on my finds to you my friends! Happy Thursday!
