Grateful Streak Continues…..

Hello Friends!

If you’re new to reading my blog, I’ve dedicated my last three or so weeks to shopping my closet instead of new wardrobe items to focus on gratitude before Christmas.

Today I’m sharing several things: First I had a somewhat lengthy and irritating debate with a client yesterday (he might not be willing or open to change) which can be normal in my field….yet….I have all these resources, education, training, and support which could help my client and it is super frustrating if someone is in front of this wonderful buffet and not willing to eat. GRRR that ticks me off, especially when I care about a client.  So yesterday after the lengthy, complicated, and challenging debate, I thought to myself….I wouldn’t be the therapist I am today without my challenging teenagers from the past. Boy we had our challenges and honestly there really is not a name a client can call me that I think (pbsttt, I’ve heard worse!) Which is actually really helpful as a therapist. I’ve had experiences with my own children that at times mimic what my clients or their parents struggle and it’s helped me a great deal.

So I called my daughter last night and said thank you for doing what you did as a teenager and being the smart a$$ she still is, she said “Your welcome” LOL, we had a good laugh but all seriousness, all these experiences I’ve had…some terrible, some painful, some difficult, some so daunting…have all benefitted me personally and as a therapist. For that I am truly thankful.

I’m also thankful that yesterday hubs and I purchased him a new car (it’s actually used, but you know what I mean). I’ve never seen him so happy (his old car has 250,000 miles, so many things don’t work anymore). I’m so thankful that together, we can get him a car to make him happy and make his work life and commute more enjoyable and dependable. How blessed am I???

Now for my regularly scheduled fashion gratitude post:

I’ve had most of these items some time: my black long sleeve shirt from Costco, beaded jacket and layered necklace from Chicos, gray jeans from Express, and leopard boots and faux fur coat from Target. I never thought about pairing the typical way I wear this jacket along with the leopard, but the leopard just makes everything pop in a new way! The different textures between faux fur, embroidered/embellished jacket, and layered necklaces is so luxe. Seriously I’ve had this jacket and layered necklace for at least five years, I’m guessing. How fun is it to wear anew??

CLOSET SHOPPING IS DEFINITELY PAYING OFF RIGHT???!

More Closet Shopping!

Hello friends!

How are you all today? I hope you are staying warm! It was 16 degrees here yesterday! Brrrrrrrr…..

I discovered more ways to shop my closet-actually close to the same outfit but for two events. One is a Sunday outfit and the other I wore to work.

Sunday I wore my blue/cream striped shirt from Oldnavy, my lavender cardigan from Target, a black patterned skirt from Macy’s, and OTK boots also from Macys. I added a purple necklace from Chicos. The OTK boots kept me warm at church and I think it’s a fun look from my closet.

The very next day (yes I wear the same clothes twice in a row! LOL Sometimes it’s just too fun to change!) I wore my blue striped top again, my lavender cardigan, but added a blue/purple patterned scarf from Target, destroyed girlfriend jeans from Express, and my snakeprint boots from Target. AND I couldn’t resist wearing purple lipstick!

I had so much fun with the basic shirt and cardigan! Blue and purple are such fun color pairs! It’s important to remember art class when creating outfits. Purple is a combination of blue and red, so blue and purple will always compliment each other! Plus purple is my favorite color….you might notice that from my logo 🙂

I hope you enjoyed another installment of shopping my closet! Stay tuned for more and Happy Hump Day friends!

Fashion for Fall

Hello friends! And happy Wednesday! Sometimes I get overwhelmed on Monday (it seems a lot to get three groups accomplished between Monday-Tuesday) but this week I had more energy and not so overwhelmed. It might be I’m having a Cabi party on Thursday and Saturday traveling to St George Utah to see “Thriller” at Tuacahn Amphitheater. So yeah I’m super excited this week!

But I wanted to share one secret of dressing for fall and I promised to share my super affordable coat from OldNavy ($10).

My friend ANNE (!) found this amazing jumper on clearance ($7) at Target but unfortunately (for her) it didn’t fit and she passed it on to me. It fits me perfect and I used a strip of leather as a belt along with a nude t shirt and cognac heels (these cheap from OldNavy too).

Now it’s been super cold in the morning but warmer later in the afternoon so this morning I’ll be wearing my gorgeous new taupe (cheap) trench type jacket from OldNavy and the taupe really pops with the jumper underneath. It’s such a fun combination.

I hope this idea helps you think of ways you can also dress for fall (cold in morning and warm afternoons)! It doesn’t have to be so hard ❤️ plus you can do it very affordably!

Wardrobing Shorts!

Hello friends and happy Sunday!

I’ve been having some fun with shorts. I touched on it in a previous post but I’m seeing something different with this one.

I’ve wore a few different outfits combining shorts with what are essentially cardigans (although each are somewhat different).

I have a pair of distressed jean shorts that I’ve combined two different ways (and will continue to experiment)

1. I wore my shorts with a purple/tan/turquoise top covered with a tan cardigan and sandals.

2. I wore my shorts with a white Tee and a plaid/tweed structured jacket, white sandals and a blue snakeskin bag.

3. I wore my white jean shorts with my white tee again and a brightly colored kimono along with white sandals and my black circle bag.

I’ve discovered it is fun and different to combine my shorts (typically a summer or casual item) with jackets or cardigans to create something unique and fun! If I could give some advice, it would be to throw away “rules” of fashion or the way you’ve always done things and have a little fun! I’m going to keep seeing what else I can get away with- by wearing shorts. Who knows right??!

Affordable Fashion

Hello friends!

I discovered something the last week or so: I follow several popular ladies on IG and I realized one I follow that used to tag affordable fashion is not doing so much anymore. I think she might be getting too popular (?) or too many followers (?) and is now linking outfits (Kate Spade for example) that are just gorgeous but not attainable for the every day woman.

I can’t afford, except for an unusual occasion (see once every few years) a $250 dress and I get frustrated following people that link items that are super expensive ($$$). I would rather pay less for clothes.

So I thought I would share a couple of inexpensive items that are trendy now but super cheap!

I perused several stores looking for a white jean jacket and lite pink jeans. JCPenney has both for around $80 with a 20% coupon. But the next day I found both these items (jacket and jeans) at Old Navy for (think it was $51). There was a sign above the jackets showing them 50% off so I got the jacket for 20! Typically you can also find coupons for OldNavy or you might have rewards and it’s even cheaper.

I saw someone else wearing something similar except higher prices at a high end store. I don’t need high end items; I love to find great deals so I thought I would pass on my finds to you my friends! Happy Thursday!

Do Geese attack? (selfie concerns)

Hello friends! Happy Thursday!

My second favorite day of the week is Thursday! Yay! How is everyone doing?? I hope you all are having a great week and have some fun weekend plans 🙂

I thought I would share a couple of favorite outfits from this week and my concerns taking pictures this morning: DO GEESE ATTACK??

This morning I was at a location close to my employment (same suburb) and this area has a little creek, lots of trees, and a couple of pretty brick bridges. I love this area, it’s so pretty in the middle of huge office buildings…interesting huh? So I got out of my car to take pictures and there are several geese by me and a weird thought pops in my mind…do geese attack? Should I be worried?

I mean, I’m normally a very cautious person, (except on the freeway); I don’t get close to Bison in Yellowstone National Park or hang over the edge of the cliff at Grand Canyon National Park, but I don’t quite know how to deal with geese. Should I be cautious? Are they going to chase me? Granted I don’t think they’re vicious right? Are they going to squack me to death? Will they flap their wings and blow me away? Not likely but these are odd thoughts running through my mind as I take pictures! Does anyone else think like this or am I the only one?? LOL The things that pop in my mind would probably concern other people!

Anyway here are a couple of my favorite outfits this week. My first one happened by accident! I found this darling spring plaid shirt at Target and realized I have earrings (Also Target) to match, then I thought about wearing white jeans (JCPenney) to make the color in the shirt pop, but it was a little chilly so I wondered what jacket to pick…..my eyes set on my destroyed jean jacket from Forever21 and then I realized I have a coral bag (JCPenney) that perfectly matches the shirt and earrings. The only thing I missed is coral lipstick, interesting I don’t have that color….I’m not sure if it would match my skin tone but now I need to find one right?? It’s a need….

Today (geese picture episode) I have to dress more professional as I have meetings with adults (LOL) but I’m still wearing a pop of color -my red pants (AnnTaylor- old) with my black/white gingham shirt by Express and tassel earrings also Express. I added my black moto jacket by OldNavy because it’s again a little cloudy and chilly 😦 but even though it’s cloudy I still dress my personality with the pop of color and fun print!

YAY FOR FUN PRINTS RIGHT??

Everyone have a happy Thursday!

The Blustery Day

Hello Friends!

Do you all remember Winnie the Pooh and The Blustery Day?? Well that’s how today feels to me! It’s windy and rainy and snow is falling in the mountains (kind of odd for Utah because there should be snow in the valley’s too) and it reminds me of “The Blustery Day” LOL.

Blustery day’s sure make for the best pictures though, it seems to bring out the colors of what I’m wearing and today is no exception although I’m wearing a lack of color along with all colors. (I learned that in art class a long time ago-white is no color and black is all colors mixed together).

I’ve discovered through the years that when my hair was platinum, darker colored hats looked really good on my head. Now that my hair is dark, lighter color hats look good. It’s the contrast that makes things pop.

My son spent two years in Moscow Russia on an LDS mission and brought me back this black fur hat which is gorgeous although hard to see now that I have dark hair. It looked great with my platinum hair (I’m enclosing a picture).

Today I wore my patterned embossed pants and striped/ruffled shirt both by Target along with my white coat (on clearance!) by Express and a cute pom pom beanie I snagged at Kohl’s. I love the contrast of the black and white along with stripes and patterns. This is a fun look for me and to be honest was somewhat hesitant at first in getting the coat cause it’s kind of trendy but who am I to resist trends?? I’ve found I really like my white coat (and it’s super warm, so out in the blustery day, I was cozy).

I hope you all have a great Wednesday (hump day)! You can make it through the week! Stay warm wherever you are, beware of the Blustery Day’s! 🙂
