Shopping my closet for Pink

Hello Friends!

I thought I would start out the week right by sharing a recent shopping trip to my own closet!

I have a pink pleated skirt (Asos) a pink sweater (H&M) both from last year and I love pink! I got some inspiration from my friend @trinagrand to wear all one color as a bold styling tip. I paired my skirt and sweater with some glittery earrings (Charming Charlies), a leopard scarf (Target), and my leopard pumps (Oldnavy). All these items are at least a year old but they look new when paired together!

Monochromatic pairings are very chic and trendy right now and get a special boost with the leopard accessories and sparkle. I think it also gives me a special boost in confidence by just wearing these bold colors!

I am thinking of wearing this ensemble to hubs Christmas party in the next couple weeks; it will be cold so I might add my faux fur leopard coat, won’t that be festive??

I hope these next weeks of posts inspire you to SHOP YOUR CLOSET too!

Haute Christmas Sweaters

Hello friends!

Lately everyone’s been talking about the sparkly, haute Christmas sweaters, dresses, and pants they’ve snagged….and I’m all about fashionista items, but today my post is about a different kind of haute Christmas sweater!

My two friends and I-Holly and Anne plan a monthly girls night and this month we decided to catch the new movie “Murder on the Orient Express”. I heard it was good and we made a date to go, but then we started talking about all the fun of Christmas and thought it would be hilarious to wear “Ugly Christmas Sweaters” to our girls night! I was super excited as the date got closer and last night was the big event! Big event makes it sound like the Oscars or Grammy’s or something right?? LOL

Holly found a darling gingerbread man sweater with big snow balls that her youngest daughter wanted to adopt (read-cut) the gingerbread man, right off the sweater! It’s true that big girls can have just as much fun as little girls!

Anne’s sweater is a litter of Santa kittens surrounded by lovely blinking lights! She was able to wear it as a dress due to size malfunctions ;)! Her daughter also wore it to school and loved it! Haute Christmas sweaters are a hit for all family members!

My sweater is one I’ve made for a work ugly Christmas sweater two years ago (with help from my daughter McKenna), featuring Spock in a blinking Christmas tree (Trek the Halls) along with Rudolph (no animals or gingerbread men were harmed in the making of these sweaters) pulling the Enterprise on the back (Boldly going where no reindeer has gone before)! (We turned the blinking off for the movie of course)! LOL

We had an awkward moment however (only one right??)…hovering in the lobby of the theater trying to find someone to take our picture; finally snagging a theatre attendant but he just walked back and snapped and then handed us the phone/camera wordlessly (first pic below, judge for yourself!)….without saying he was taking a pic! We just kind of laughed about that, uh what to do…wondering how we were gonna get another picture! But another theatre attendant saw us and offered to take more pictures! We are at the mercy of strangers here! (notice we are standing in front of a Jedi…”help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope”, if anyone can help us, it’s the Force)…It was too funny guys!

We finally got some pictures and headed in to watch a really good movie! If you haven’t seen it, go check it out…and just for fun, wear your Haute Christmas Sweaters! Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Sparkle Season!

Hello friends!

Here we are almost through the week! How is everyone doing? I am just in a cheery mood, I don’t know where it’s coming from…oh yes I do! I spent the evening shopping with my mom, dad, sister, two nieces (niece’s two little girls). We really had fun and I seriously found the cutest two pieces of jewelry.

We were roaming through the mall forever and I was still dressed from work, wearing my black booties which are super comfy but not necessarily meant to roam the mall 😉 hahaha (I should store flat shoes in my trunk for mall roaming)!

Anyway, we were in Maurice’s looking for a gift for someone and I happened to find a lovely watch/bracelet double wrap thingy (I’m seriously not sure what to call it) but it’s super fun (cheap, hope that doesn’t sound bad) and totally matches my style! Score!

Then I had to fuel up at Chik Fil A- grilled nuggets and lemonade heaven. Is there anything better than Chik Fil A lemonade? Ok I digress…

We then moved on down the road to TJMAXX because it’s always a good place to snag a deal for gifts right? But I “accidentally” found a bootiful pendant from Betsy Johnson and it’s amazing, so I’m super stoked that I got these bargain finds that add to my sparkle season! I’m a sucker for something pretty and sparkly! I’m going to wear this pendant with my gray Madewell shirt, maybe my leopard jeans, and pink/gold sparkle blazer. A girl’s gotta bling….again and again….

And there’s more! We then went to another mall to JCPenney and wandered into Sephora inside the store. My sister showed me a Stila display and we spent nearly 15 minutes swiping (lipgloss wand type of containers) of glitter eyeshadow on our wrists! I didn’t buy any but I think it’s on my (Christmas) stocking list. I found it online, it’s called Magnificient Metals!

SPARKLE SEASON IS UPON US, JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON WITH ME (or else I’m going down alone Muahahaha)!

Holiday Challenge

Hello friends!

I like to say friends because I think that if we knew each other, we would surely get along well and I hope in some way my writing brings some enjoyment to your life as well as mine:) I’ve recently joined an over 50 Facebook group for women and I love the way we all treat each other kindly and encourage each other. I think we all need more kindness in our lives.

I love the holidays and if you’ve seen my IG posts, you know I love to decorate and express my personality (besides fashion) through sharing my love for the holidays (all holidays really, I’m not too picky, but especially Christmas and Halloween). January through June is a dry spell difficult for me to enjoy cause there aren’t any big holidays I can decorate…I mean Valentine’s and Easter are fairly big holidays but I don’t seem to get the decorating bug as much as the others. But this is a fashion blog so I need to always find a way to incorporate fashion into everything I do! It’s really not that hard either.

So I’ve got this idea to bring fashion into the holiday season that’s different than what you’ve seen before! I decided to create a holiday challenge that I invite you to participate! Each day from now til Christmas, I challenge each of you to wear red or green every day in some way! When you wear your daily challenges, please share them with me and it will be wonderful fun!

Today I’m wearing my tan sweater from H&M, my red pants JCPenney, and my leopard booties Target-ANewDay with my leopard bag! It’s a great combination and also wearing red! Red is one of my favorite colors to wear….and also a holiday color! It’s a win win…join in my challenge everyone! Let’s make this fun!

The Big Week

Happy Thanksgiving Week my friends!
I thought I’d write to help prepare you all for Thanksgiving and Black Friday fashion. Yes there is such a thing as Black Friday Fashion! You know how you get up early to catch smoking deals and it’s 25 degrees so you bundle up and then get in the malls and it’s 95 degrees, there are hundreds of people and you wish you were wearing shorts?? Yes this is what I’m speaking about.
Things start out on Thanksgiving of course; I’m usually up cooking a storm and only at the last hour or so get to relax, so I normally wear a cozy sweater or sweatshirt and jeans while most of the time wearing one of my many full coverage aprons! You never know what might spill, sizzle, or flip on your clothes and I want my clothes to last forever! LOL But this year is different and by different I mean it’s a new tradition. Most of our adult children are married and have in laws who live in our same area. Yes Connor, I know you aren’t married, although I don’t think you will be awake for Thanksgiving 😉 My son Connor works grave yard shift.
Earlier this fall, my sister Michelle and I were talking about Thanksgiving and usually we get together, but this year it is her husband’s family’s turn to gather, so I found myself in an odd predicament. It’s difficult to expect married children to be with us for the whole day when they have other family close by and I didn’t want to cook a big dinner for me and the hubs so I thought we would go out for Thanksgiving dinner. There are many restaurants/resorts nearby that do a big shindig for Thanksgiving and it sounded like fun to try that out! Me and Hubs are going to dinner up beautiful Provo Canyon to Zermatt in Midway and then that evening our children are coming to have snacks, football, and a Christmas craft. I think that will be a lot of fun and to me sounds more relaxing than cooking for a couple days and doing dishes for hours. Doing dishes is not my favorite holiday tradition FYI….
Since I’m not cooking and cleaning up a storm, you guessed it, I can wear something fun for Thanksgiving. I’m planning on wearing my “Amore” Old Navy sweater, with my curvy Old Navy jeans (dark wash), and my gorgeous new heels from JCPenney! I’m super pumped about being able to dress up a little bit and kick back. Remember fashion really feeds my soul and getting dressed up for a holiday and going somewhere is super fun and makes me think of Cinderella getting dressed up for the ball! I’m a fairy tale girl at heart!
Then the hard work (?) of Black Friday! Don’t be scared, here is what I’ve learned: Take a coat in the car just in case but don’t wear your coat into the mall/Target/Walmart/Costco/BedBathandBeyond/BathandBodyWorks etc… Leave your coat in the car (I know that sounds counter productive, but it’s gonna be warm in most places because of all the people, you will only need your coat in the car and maybe not that cause I think we all have heated cars!) LOL I usually wear a sweater or sweatshirt with some jeans or joggers and comfortable shoes or boots depending if we have snow on the ground. Even a vest would be better than a coat if your climate is super cold, but it’s always super heated in stores (more ways than one right? I’ve never seen anyone get angry on Black Friday, but I typically am not up at 4am either. Maybe the people that get angry are just hungry and tired? I’ve usually got eight hours of sleep AND breakfast, so I’m pretty cheery 😉 Remember to eat before heading out IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP! LOLOL
I’ll be heading out with the hubs and we have really so much fun he and I. It’s the only time of year that he will shop with me (he’s not a big shopper) and we have fun going from place to place and planning our Christmas. We usually make a list ahead of time and only buy the things on our list if they happen to be included in the big sale. We’ll grab some lunch somewhere and it will be a fun day listening to Christmas music and feeling the fun of shopping for our loved ones 🙂 Just remember to be prepared to say hello to many people! Try to smile? (I wonder if I took snacks if that would cheer people up?)

Mixing Themes

Good morning! Thank goodness it’s Wednesday right?? I always think if I can get through Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday will be no big deal and then Thursday is close and Friday is a no brainer 😉

I’ve noticed something interesting going on with my looks this week. I’m a big fan of mixing items that you would never think match

. The last couple of days I’ve wore a few different patterns of pants that normally would be in certain categories of looks; for example: Monday I wore a holiday pattern textured skinny pant with a simple striped every day sweater. Tuesday I wore a tweed pattern dress flair pant with a boxy sweater, statement necklace and jean jacket? Today I’m wearing camo curvy pants with a velvet jacket and my comfy converse.

I think most people would not put these items together-holiday pattern sparkly pants make me think of a party, not going to work. Tweed pattern pants bring to mind a suit, maybe a formal work wear look. Camo pants definitely do not seem to go with velvet!  But I think that’s what make these combinations work! It’s so unexpected that it catches your eye but in a fun, interesting way!

Let me explain why these work 🙂 The holiday pattern textured pants: you have to look at these as a neutral even though they have a fun pattern. They are black and basically go with anything, so I paired them with my striped sweater and fur leather jacket, taking this holiday item in another direction.

The tweed pattern flair pants are essentially also a neutral. They have charcoal, tan, and cream colors that each color taken separately are neutrals, so this can go with anything…most people typically match it with something more office wear type but I paired it with a tan boxy sweater, a statement blue/silver necklace, and a jean jacket along with open toe tan booties. I love how this turned out and it has several unexpected items matched together!

The camo pants are one of my favorite neutrals next to leopard. The pattern itself is a light green, darker green and almost a gray green-while this is a green pattern, together it is also a neutral. Camo pants are typically kind of an edgy look -and I wear with my gray t shirt, black pattern converse, black fringe bag, AND MY PINK VELVET BLAZER! Which is unusual but so fun and unexpected again!

I think it’s really fun to mix unusual items together to create fun looks. I’m kind of a rebel, so doing this is my way of rebelling without actually doing something bad 😉

Have a great day everyone and mix different looks from your closet!

Holiday Every Day

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone is making it through their Monday! My weather here is just gorgeous (Utah)! It’s pretty crisp (30 degrees) in the morning but the skies are clear and afternoon warms up a bit (supposed to be 63 today). I think that’s near perfect weather; cold enough for sweaters and a jacket but not using the AC. Yep perfect weather, I love this time of year.

Another thing I love is the holiday wear type of clothing that’s in all the stores now. Gearing up for (someone) to go to some type of holiday party in (pants, dress, or shirt/skirt) that sparkly or has some kind of flair.

I’m just your average normal person. I work five days a week; most Saturdays are spent cleaning the house, doing laundry, picking up groceries for next week or yard work. I don’t go to a whole lot of BIG EVENTS. Last weekend we went to a Veterans Day concert with our good friends DJ and Becky Gibb and that really was very nice. The orchestra/band was amazing, the Utah National Guard 23rd Army Band and Granite School District High School Choirs. It was an amazing program and I thought that was a good excuse to dress up. Normally I go out to movies with my husband or we go out to dinner with our adult children and our grandchildren. Every once in a while we’ll do something fancy but not often. So I’m always looking to dress up for little things.

I love holiday wear (but I wear it for every day). Take today for example: I found some black stretch type pants (side zip) with an embossed type of sparkly design and I’m wearing these with my black/tan striped sweater, black booties, and tan/fur leather jacket (I got at Express about 15 years ago, still adore it and it’s amazing). I really think combining these items is unique, unexpected, and fun!

I think anyone can take a holiday item (one I’m identifying as having lots of sparkle, velvet, you know a fancy type of look) and pairing it with an everyday item like my basic sweater and I think it makes it really fun fashion with flair!

I also have a pair of velvet black pants I got on clearance after the holidays last year and I wear them with a black/white striped long sleeve shirt, my jean jacket, and my sparkly crystal necklace.

Another fun outfit is my black sequin top (got on clearance at Deb before it closed for like $2?) with my black jogging pants (unexpected right?), my burgundy cardigan, and black heels when I’m just going out to dinner. It’s fun and festive and I don’t have to be going to an EVENT.

I don’t think you have to attend an event to wear something sparkly and fancy. I love to make the everyday, especially Mondays sparkly and fun! If you have a fancy for some fun holiday wear but are like me and a normal human being, wear your holiday wear for every day! I know it makes my everyday less ordinary!Women’s Textured Skinny Pants
