Trolling the Junior Section

Hello friends and Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a good weekend! I had the best time with four of my grandkids, they are so precious; I am very blessed. Not to mention they are a hoot! One grandson in response to a question, did you get enough bacon tonight said “Yes (in a news commentator tone) I had 23 pieces”! LOL! One granddaughter proves herself to be an excellent shopper in training at Build A Bear and had a stash of $$$ things she wanted but was very sweet to put most of it back. Another granddaughter is developing her sense of humor and put a dinosaur growl into her sweet lovable snugly kitty! Another grandson is at the age where he is learning about his emotions and is not quite adept at being effective to express himself (code: he had a meltdown in the parking lot when asked to hold hands for his safety, btw grandma is not going to let him run through parking lots)! Anyway it was fun and I love them so much!

I think these little people keep me young because I find myself trolling the junior section of Target looking for trendy, colorful and different wardrobe pieces that I can adapt for myself. I discovered this AH-mazing skirt (it’s so colorful and the material is kind of bumpy so there is that textural piece that is fun). I paired it with boots also from Target (these two items from their Wild Fable line-I’m guessing it’s targeting young women, but hey it’s cute so head there next time you’re in Target) and I added a spring-y graphic T from JCPenney, I just love graphic tees but I want my message to fit who I am, so this one is bomb! I also (just for kicks) added a real distressed jean jacket (last year from Forever 21) and my snugly faux fur backpack (from Walmart) and here ya go! A fun, trendy, colorful outfit that fits my personality!

WHO CARES ABOUT AGE?? THIS FITS ME TO A “T”!

Ways to Wear Red

Hello Friends and Happy Wednesday!

I’m always glad to make it to Wednesday because that means I’m halfway through my week and I know I can get through the remainder 🙂 I encourage myself by  viewing it this way LOL, I have to talk to myself like this, I bet other people do something similar.

Anyway, I’ve been wearing a lot of red lately but in different ways and I thought I would share several ways to wear red that are fun and new.

First: I paired my Express Camo leggings with a simple black T, my fun army green JCPenney cardigan complete with cool military type decals (only girly), added several necklaces for a tough girl vibe and topped it all off with my favorite red lip (Stila Long Lasting Liquid Lip Color in Fiery-my favorite BTW.

Second: I wore this fabulous pink/red sweater from Asos and some boyfriend jeans from Target, while adding this super cute heart print bag (also Target) and added white boots from Charlotte Russe. This is one of my favorite outfits, seriously the sweater fits so well and is flattering and I’ve got so many compliments on the sweater AND the freakin cute bag. I think I’ll keep both forever or until I’ve worn them out LOL

Third: I found an amazing shirt dress from H&M in snakeprint that I’ve worn three times already, and this time I paired it with my red Asos glossy boots and long red earrings. This dress is so bomb, I’ve worn it as a duster too…there are so many outfit combinations (but going back to red, it pairs really fun and pop with red)!

Fourth: You guys have seen this H&M sweater before, I’ve had it about a year but it goes with so many things! It’s a geometric print combining red/white/black and it’s amazing. I paired it with my perfect leopard coat and that super cute, super fun heart bag-both from Target along with some white earrings a friend gave me (also Target-SugarFix bauble bar) with black jeans and black cozy-faux fur loafers (also Target). This outfit is super fun while also giving me another chance to wear that amazing red liquid lipstick from Stila I mentioned earlier.

I hope you’ve enjoyed all these different ways I wear red and I hope it gives you ideas on how you can incorporate some of the color into your outfit choices too! If anyone needs any help in combining outfits or patterns or colors, please let me know! I am happy to help out!

Pastels for the Win (Ter)

Hello friends!

I had a wonderful day off (thanks to all the past presidents)-work holiday. But tomorrow I go back to work 🙁 I wish I could figure out a way to get paid and NOT work. I haven’t figured that out yet 😂🤣

Anyway! It’s still WINTER and one way I cheer myself up is through fashion; specifically fashion that defies winter!

When you think of Winter, do you think of darker days, cold weather, snow, and slick roads? Well I do too, and so I think it’s fun to play opposite game and switch to something opposite of all that which in this case is PASTELS! Pastels are usually reserved for spring or weddings right?? Not anymore!

I found this awesome mint green faux fur jacket on clearance at Target, combined with these cute mint Nike’s from JCPenney; then I added white just to be feisty! White jeans (also JCPenney) and a pastel striped “Hello” sweater I accidentally snagged from Walmart! (Score!)

Isn’t this the perfect attitude when facing winter?? Gimme all you got, I’m not scared… yep that’s what we’ve got to do to get through- chin up and show some attitude 😊

Dressing with Plaid

Hello friends!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend (now that the last minutes are ticking away LOL)

I visited with two of my grandkids that live farther away so it was a great weekend getaway so to speak ❤️

I want to share my love for these green/purple/black plaid pants I got on clearance at Target. At first I matched them with a striped purple and black sweater but this time I toned them down with a green sweatshirt- which normally means more casual but I added my vintage black fur coat with my Walmart faux fur backpack, my purple fringe earrings (target again) fur loafers (also Target- its a Target type of day) and TADA! My purple Anastasia lipstick!

All of this made for a classic look even though I was wearing a sweatshirt! (It was pretty comfy and I was warm). So anytime you are thinking you can’t wear a sweatshirt cause it seems too casual; just add a few classy-sassy items and you can UP your wardrobe game.

I’m also still trying to see how many looks I can combine without adding a new item (shop my closet fun)! I’ve been re organizing my closet too and it gives me more ideas for new outfits so stay tuned!!

Play That Sweater Again

Hey friends!

I think I’m finally getting the hang of 2019; it’s taken a couple weeks but I might be back to myself. Two weeks of three day work is nice but the added burden of completing 5 days of work in 3 (two weeks in a row) is exhausting. How do you adjust to change or stress? It takes a lot out of me for the most part. Usually change or stress can be managed with self care but I’ve been slacking in that area too! What’s up with all this??

Anyway, enough talk of my difficulties! It’s time to focus on fashion! 👗

I purchased a sweater from Loft lately, it was on sale for $20 and I’ve sure got my money’s worth. It’s so cute! It’s dark blue with gold polka dots and has a rounded hem. It’s so fun!

One day I paired it with my gold skirt and leopard boots for a fun Sunday look (sparkly earrings too!)

The next outfit idea is pairing my polka dot sweater with my gray jeans, a blue plaid jacket from Cabi, my snakeprint boots from Target and this snuggly faux fur lite blue coat also from Target. I was staying warm this day for sure!

One thing I try to make sure is that when I’m thinking of buying an item- I make sure I can think of several outfits to combine with it! That makes my wardrobe stretch really far! You can do this too if you want and it’s also fun to see how many combinations result from one new item.

Happy reruns friends!

2019 Doesn’t Like Me

Happy New Year friends! Seriously this is what I thought last week! (I have this thing against odd numbers!) but seriously I experienced some unexpected difficulties at work which hijacked my whole week of blogging and life as a hopeful-positive person. Life is hard sometimes but then I just have to keep going right??

So I thought instead of focusing on the negative parts of my week, I would share another closet shopping trip!

It started out as a cold day! Which should have clued me into the negative storm heading my way, but I digress…..

So I wanted to wear some warm leggings (sequin leggings from Express last year are what I decided on😂) YES Then I paired them with a thermal black shirt (tip for dressing warm) and a leopard dress from ASOS last year. I added my leather looking sneaks and my (actually this is new) deep green leather like moto jacket with faux fur collar from Express (at least it was 50% off) and a cute appliqué bag I snagged from Charming Charlie’s a couple years ago.

I stayed warm, I wore a flippin cute dress, and if you looked close- you could see sequins peeking out as I went about my work day. That’s almost enough to balance out a bad work week right??

Grateful Streak Continues…..

Hello Friends!

If you’re new to reading my blog, I’ve dedicated my last three or so weeks to shopping my closet instead of new wardrobe items to focus on gratitude before Christmas.

Today I’m sharing several things: First I had a somewhat lengthy and irritating debate with a client yesterday (he might not be willing or open to change) which can be normal in my field….yet….I have all these resources, education, training, and support which could help my client and it is super frustrating if someone is in front of this wonderful buffet and not willing to eat. GRRR that ticks me off, especially when I care about a client.  So yesterday after the lengthy, complicated, and challenging debate, I thought to myself….I wouldn’t be the therapist I am today without my challenging teenagers from the past. Boy we had our challenges and honestly there really is not a name a client can call me that I think (pbsttt, I’ve heard worse!) Which is actually really helpful as a therapist. I’ve had experiences with my own children that at times mimic what my clients or their parents struggle and it’s helped me a great deal.

So I called my daughter last night and said thank you for doing what you did as a teenager and being the smart a$$ she still is, she said “Your welcome” LOL, we had a good laugh but all seriousness, all these experiences I’ve had…some terrible, some painful, some difficult, some so daunting…have all benefitted me personally and as a therapist. For that I am truly thankful.

I’m also thankful that yesterday hubs and I purchased him a new car (it’s actually used, but you know what I mean). I’ve never seen him so happy (his old car has 250,000 miles, so many things don’t work anymore). I’m so thankful that together, we can get him a car to make him happy and make his work life and commute more enjoyable and dependable. How blessed am I???

Now for my regularly scheduled fashion gratitude post:

I’ve had most of these items some time: my black long sleeve shirt from Costco, beaded jacket and layered necklace from Chicos, gray jeans from Express, and leopard boots and faux fur coat from Target. I never thought about pairing the typical way I wear this jacket along with the leopard, but the leopard just makes everything pop in a new way! The different textures between faux fur, embroidered/embellished jacket, and layered necklaces is so luxe. Seriously I’ve had this jacket and layered necklace for at least five years, I’m guessing. How fun is it to wear anew??

CLOSET SHOPPING IS DEFINITELY PAYING OFF RIGHT???!
