U Can Wear Athleisure 2

Hello Friends and happy Thursday!

We are more than halfway through the week! Yay! Thursday is just one day from Friyay and I’ve found it’s easier to hype myself on Thursday than Monday. Thursday is my second favorite day of the work week LOL

I’ve been reading and seeing all about the athleisure look wondering if I could really wear it too, sometimes trends seem too young to give a go, but a couple weeks ago I was perusing the Macys clearance rack and discovered two awesome items: one is a Calvin Klein spin on leopard print with pinks and purples (it’s really not a challenge for me to get on board with any type of leopard and the second are black (thick weave) leggings with a silver sparkle strip down the outside of the legs (the sparkle and strip are totally me)! I was super excited to match these together (and I’ve wore the leggings with other things of course, they are so versatile). I added my pink Rocketdogs and a white purse and it looks so fun! You’d never know it’s really work out clothes (really we are so lucky that fashion now is so versatile. It’s cool to wear something in a different context, mix prints, mix styles, and wear bold colors together! It’s such a fun time in fashion!)

I hope this gives you inspiration to wear your own spin of athleisure throughout your week and not just while working out πŸ™‚

Together at Last! (A boot story)

Hello friends and happy weekend!

I’m sharing a story of two loves recently reunited! It involves a cold spring trip to Chicago πŸ˜‚

In 2016 I accompanied hubs on a work training he had in Chicago the end of April. I was super excited because I had never been and I could do some sightseeing while he was training.

I checked the weather on a couple of apps and it said 50 degrees or so and so I brought several warmer spring outfits and a couple light cardigans. (Those of you living in Chicago or having visited at that time might guess what happened) πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

It was freakin cold! Everyone was bundled up, still wearing coats and boots and I brought spring clothing! Holy cow! I even brought sandals. Yes I was miserable and the only one in the city wearing sandals but I still went out and took a (very cold) boat tour of the city. It was amazing and I’d love to go back-in the summer.

While I was there I momentarily visited the (is it five stories) Macys downtown! Normally I could spend all day doing this but I was with two other (work wives) and they weren’t much into shopping-unfortunately πŸ™ but I was looking for a pair of boots! There are always good reasons to buy boots but this time I was looking for something to keep my feet warm.

I ended up finding a black suede pair with fringe on the side- only they were a 9 1/2 and I wear a 10. They were a wee bit tight but I needed boots bad and they were cute.

I spent the remainder of the trip wearing these too small boots and by the time we were flying home I knew I couldn’t keep them. I gave them to my youngest daughter and she wears them with thick socks πŸ˜‚

BUT! This week at Target (of course at Target) I found a cute (size 10) pair of short black cowboy boots with fringe! How lucky am I to reunite with my fringe boots???

Reunited and it feels (and fits) so good!!

Graphic Arts

Hello friends!

Happy Monday! It’s not been my typical Monday as today is a near blizzard; I made it to work driving very slow but once I got here none of my clients made it because they can’t get out of their complex ❄️ ❄️❄️

So here I am at work trying to make myself useful doing (nothing really) πŸ˜‚

BUT! I can write on my blog and share something fun! Graphic Tees! They are so versatile and have so much personality!

This one I bought at Salt Lake ComicCon (now referred to as Salt Lake FanX-whatever πŸ˜‚) but it’s the cutest Big Bang Theory Tee memorializing Soft Kitty song. I paired it with my business like tweed jacket from Target, cuffed black jeans by Cabi and my old pink Rocketdog sneaks from DSW. Of course I had to add bling earrings and a pink bag!

See how fun it can be to change up your wardrobe with a little graphic tee! I do it all the time ❀️

Oh and here’s a photo of today’s fun in the snow ⛄️ this might be the best Monday I’ve ever had

Gaming (In my House)

Hello friends!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I enjoyed myself immensely over the last four days off from work! I got to see some of my hubs family and then my children/grandchildren came over two of the last four days! I am so blessed!

I think the most fun I have is in “gaming” which means something different to me!

In our family, we love love love to play games! Lately we’ve been playing a lot of “Codenames”, “Sequence”, “Ticket to Ride”, “UNO” of course, “Pass the Pigs, and our grandkids gave us a new game “Skull King” which is very fun, a little like Pinochle, and my seven year old grandson is a whiz at! We played 10 rounds and yes I ended up winning (but that happened at the very last minute)! LOL

Our family loves all kinds of board games and card games. One epic game “Spoons” has resulted in physical injuries and dents in the walls as participants leap for spoons in acrobatic moves! I have so many fun memories of playing games with my children/grandchildren.

Check out these games listed above, you will not be disappointed!

Thanksgiving Debacle

Hello friends!

I’ve recovered from thanksgiving (I wasn’t planning on needing to recover so it took a whole day) and I thought I would share πŸ˜‰

I decided previous to thanksgiving that I’ve baked for enough years that I would like to relax a bit. So I did some searching online and found a local store (Smiths or Kroger- yes I’m throwing them under the bus) that offered a full thanksgiving meal: large turkey with all the fixings for $80 which is less than we normally spend on a big family meal like this.

I ordered our meal to be picked up on thanksgiving day at 11am and the website said I would only need to reheat the food. Sounded good to me.

So yesterday morning as I was having the most relaxing thanksgiving on record, hubs went to pick up the food. He returned about 30 minutes later: “I don’t think this is what you had in mind” are the first words out of his mouth. I had a positive attitude and unwrapped his boxes which included a cold bloody turkey, fresh green beans, cartons of cream, pats of butter, a loaf of bread (A LOAF OF BREAD???- if you’ve ever done any baking before- you KNOW a person does not make stuffing with a fresh loaf of bread without some serious time and effort!) sliced mushrooms, onions, sealed packages of potatoes, sealed packages of sautΓ©ed vegetables, and thankfully there was a cooked pumpkin pie and a package of fresh rolls. These are accompanied by recipe cards!! Whaaaaaat?? (Actually the stuffing ingredients did NOT have a recipe- WTF!)

I have 15 people coming over for dinner at 1 and a freakin cold turkey and several entrees that need to actually be prepared! Friends I almost popped a gasket! Not to mention cooking a dinner at the last minute and a kitchen full of dishes/pans with everything cooking as I have guests/family and everyone hungry. (This is not my usual manner of a big fancy important dinner-traditionally πŸ˜‚)

So it takes 3 hours to heat up the bird and we have hungry children- as we’re cooking we are also popping frozen pizzas in the other oven- which is crazy cause in only an hour the dinner is done but everyone’s already ate frozen pizza so don’t have a big appetite for a huge turkey dinner. You can imagine my distress? The website I ordered from never suggested “hours” or “recipes” or “time to prepare dishes before serving”πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ this is the craziest thanksgiving I have ever ever ever experienced.

Hopefully it never happens again. But I was reminded-no one in my family likes turkey! Is it really the holidays without a bit of drama and comedy??

Cara Mia Halloween

Oh hi friends!

I so wanted to share my Halloween style this year! It was a crazy few weeks but it all came together and I was so excited!!

So a couple months ago, you might remember I changed my hair and got super long extensions which made me think of Morticia Addams- one of my favorite Halloween characters- she is so chic yet deathly dramatic that’s I just love her and had to be her for Halloween!

Lucky for me, hubs is a good sport and agreed to be Gomez Addams also! (Coincidentally my oldest daughter planned to be Wednesday Addams!) (I got my dress and hubs costume from Amazon!)

The makeup was tricky and I watched several YouTube videos on Morticia’s makeup until I found one I liked. The day before Halloween and the day of -I wore my makeup to take pictures with my daughter and then to take less time getting ready Halloween night.

I purchased cheap foundation at the grocery store- the fairest I could find and my face (read:rosacea) did not like the drug store brand and both days appeared (close up) fairly irritated and peeling and red) but luckily has not continued since that day. It seems back to normal with my regular EstΓ©e Lauder Doublewear in Light Beige which is really soothing for my skin and lasts throughout my long days.

Here are our two pictures of The Addams family, first with Morticia and Wednesday; then with Gomez and ‘Tish… you’re gonna love this as much as I did!!(This might even be my Christmas card picture)

Couch Potato Plan

Hello friends!

How are you all this wonderful Wednesday?? I’m so glad the week is half over. I’m telling you my training was tough tough tough. It’s the most difficult thing I’ve done for years!

We spent the whole training in silence which was not as difficult as spending (25) 25 minute meditation-which means I sat on a chair with a straight posture, my feet flat on the floor and my hands resting on my knees without moving. (Some people sat on cushions with their legs crossed but baby my knees are at a age that I cannot sit cross legged anymore LOL) So I sat on a chair. It was so hard! But I made it through and am very proud of myself.

We did this training on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound outside of Seattle Washington and oh my gosh it’s such a pretty area. The smells of the forest around us was AMAZING! I couldn’t figure out what smelled so good until a co worker, born and raised in Washington told me it was the redwood trees, cedar smell. Friends, I’ve never been so in love with trees before. OH MY GOSH it was so beautiful, so that helped to balance out the HARD.

But last night as I got home from work, I had no desire to do anything but lay on the couch, (I was so tired) cue up my new Jurassic World movie and eat Thai food. That was my couch potato plan and I enjoyed it!

Enjoy the pictures I’m adding of the area around The Whidbey Institute. It’s a gorgeous place. I’m also adding pictures of the cabin we stayed.

Training to be Silent

Hey friends!

So this weekend I’m involved in a training for work (Friday-Monday) on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound (Outside Seattle)

This is a silent mindfulness training (labeled a retreat) and honestly works well for me because I don’t like to go to training and be expected to get to know a huge bunch of people I don’t know (I’m sort of a introvert masking as an extrovert cause obviously I’m blogging and IG)!

This is part of a DBT certification that I’m doing with some of my co workers. (So the whole time I’m here I have to stay silent!) (Also no shopping, so we’ll see how everything goes!)

It’s All About That Plaid (And NYFW)

Hey friends!

Happy Thursday and almost Friday! (am I getting ahead of myself??) You guys know I love me a weekend (I won’t have a weekend this week cause I have a work training but that is another post full of my thoughts LOL)

You all know I’m a stalker of all things fashion and that includes NYFW (New York Fashion Week). It’s such a cool time to see what new trends are out there and what I have in my closet that is similar. I think that is a fun adventure!

I follow WhoWhatWear on IG and during Fashion Week, one of their editors (?) Kat Collins was all dressed up and going to some event. I thought her look darling and l looked up the pants she wore and they are from Shopbop for $750…yes $750 dollars for a pair of pants….Whoa, that’s like a house payment! Sheesh, I aint got that kind of money for a pair of pants and if I did, should I pay that much for a pair of pants??

So anyway, I thought, well I can copy her look (sort of) without spending that much and make it lots of fun right??

I first started with a pair of leggings I purchased in January from Rue21 on clearance for I think $10 (honestly that’s more my speed), and I tried to figure out what kind of top to pair with it…her sweater has some fun details although just gray. I eventually discovered an old LulaRoe shirt in a gray/white print that I thought looked amazing with these pants (had some personality) except structure of the shirt is LulaRoe; it’s kind of baggy and ties in the front. I needed my shirt to be more fitted and shorter. So I got out my 36 year old sewing machine at 7:45 am to try some alterations by 8:30am… (you can already see my problem)

I took in both sides of the shirt and attempted to hem it, although my machine keeps clogging up and knotting underneath, possibly some mechanical malfunction because I re threaded it several times, got a new needle, etc but no go. Needless to say, I still went to work because I AM NOT A QUITTER! LOL

So I paired my $10 leggings with an old Lularoe shirt, some bejeweled velvet mules from Target and my black circle bag. Oh I also wore my wayyyy tassel red earrings along with bold eye makeup and bold red lips! I do not do things half way!

I’m attaching pictures of the original outfit and then mine. Hopefully you can see ways to incorporate runway trends at home (by the way, I’m still looking for a bedazzled black drawstring purse just to up my game) Happy weekend friends!
