Closet Creativity

Hello friends! And welcome to another installment of my thriftiness/thankfulness marathon labeled as closet creativity! I hope my efforts to shop my closet help you think of ways you can also do the same!

Today I’m sharing a new (yet old) outfit I created from my closet and I really had some fun! First I snagged my blue floral pants by Loft (purchased last year or year before) a T shirt from Target, my striped cardigan (newer but not in the last two months) and I was stuck at what to do with my feet! These pants are normally a summer staple and wear with one or two open toe shoes but it’s not very warm although I still wanted to do something fun! Then I remembered my glitter pumps I purchased last year from White House Black Market and realized my cute patterned socks (Amazon) would match perfectly with the turquoise detail running through the pants!

All day I was mesmerized by the sparkle and floral of my shoes/socks/pants. I’m so glad I decided to shop my closet because I have somewhat forgot about these glitter pumps and it being the holiday season, glitter is so trendy and fun-not to mention adding the socks which is such a fun look I’ve seen on many of my favorite Instagrammers!

I have a typically difficult job as a therapist in a residential setting; most of my clients are difficult, complicated, and struggle with powerful mental illness and/or addiction. It’s normal for someone in my field to develop distractions or ways to make sure they don’t burn out. I have to say that my glitter heels were a much needed distraction the day I wore them.

Normally many people see fashion as frivolous and silly, but my blog, my Instagram, being creative with my closet, wearing glittery heels to work, this is what helps me avoid burn out and this friends: This Is Real World Problems.

Shopping my closet for Pink

Hello Friends!

I thought I would start out the week right by sharing a recent shopping trip to my own closet!

I have a pink pleated skirt (Asos) a pink sweater (H&M) both from last year and I love pink! I got some inspiration from my friend @trinagrand to wear all one color as a bold styling tip. I paired my skirt and sweater with some glittery earrings (Charming Charlies), a leopard scarf (Target), and my leopard pumps (Oldnavy). All these items are at least a year old but they look new when paired together!

Monochromatic pairings are very chic and trendy right now and get a special boost with the leopard accessories and sparkle. I think it also gives me a special boost in confidence by just wearing these bold colors!

I am thinking of wearing this ensemble to hubs Christmas party in the next couple weeks; it will be cold so I might add my faux fur leopard coat, won’t that be festive??

I hope these next weeks of posts inspire you to SHOP YOUR CLOSET too!

Renewed Thriftiness and Thankfulness

Hello Friends!

How are you all doing? Did you survive Thanksgiving weekend and Black Friday?? I try to get a lot or most of my Christmas shopping done that weekend to spend more time enjoying the holiday season, but I still have six gifts left to purchase; which is not too bad out of 22 people we (me and hubs) have on our gift list this year. I am so blessed with a wonderful family and great friends that I am happy to be out shopping for them.

Although my thanksgiving was less than ideal (see my “Thanksgiving Debacle” post) I am still very thankful for time with my family (husband, children, grandchildren) and to have days off from work. It was a much needed break.

In pondering thankfulness, I want to focus my next month of posts (from now until Christmas) on styling clothing items I already have, instead of new items. I think this thankfulness will challenge me to be creative with the clothing I have and push me to think more outside the box in using my older items! Think: Shop Your Closet!

So let the days of thriftiness and thanksgiving begin!! Join me if you would like; comment how you will be participating in my special thankfulness leading up to Christmas!

Thanksgiving Debacle

Hello friends!

I’ve recovered from thanksgiving (I wasn’t planning on needing to recover so it took a whole day) and I thought I would share 😉

I decided previous to thanksgiving that I’ve baked for enough years that I would like to relax a bit. So I did some searching online and found a local store (Smiths or Kroger- yes I’m throwing them under the bus) that offered a full thanksgiving meal: large turkey with all the fixings for $80 which is less than we normally spend on a big family meal like this.

I ordered our meal to be picked up on thanksgiving day at 11am and the website said I would only need to reheat the food. Sounded good to me.

So yesterday morning as I was having the most relaxing thanksgiving on record, hubs went to pick up the food. He returned about 30 minutes later: “I don’t think this is what you had in mind” are the first words out of his mouth. I had a positive attitude and unwrapped his boxes which included a cold bloody turkey, fresh green beans, cartons of cream, pats of butter, a loaf of bread (A LOAF OF BREAD???- if you’ve ever done any baking before- you KNOW a person does not make stuffing with a fresh loaf of bread without some serious time and effort!) sliced mushrooms, onions, sealed packages of potatoes, sealed packages of sautéed vegetables, and thankfully there was a cooked pumpkin pie and a package of fresh rolls. These are accompanied by recipe cards!! Whaaaaaat?? (Actually the stuffing ingredients did NOT have a recipe- WTF!)

I have 15 people coming over for dinner at 1 and a freakin cold turkey and several entrees that need to actually be prepared! Friends I almost popped a gasket! Not to mention cooking a dinner at the last minute and a kitchen full of dishes/pans with everything cooking as I have guests/family and everyone hungry. (This is not my usual manner of a big fancy important dinner-traditionally 😂)

So it takes 3 hours to heat up the bird and we have hungry children- as we’re cooking we are also popping frozen pizzas in the other oven- which is crazy cause in only an hour the dinner is done but everyone’s already ate frozen pizza so don’t have a big appetite for a huge turkey dinner. You can imagine my distress? The website I ordered from never suggested “hours” or “recipes” or “time to prepare dishes before serving”😂🤣 this is the craziest thanksgiving I have ever ever ever experienced.

Hopefully it never happens again. But I was reminded-no one in my family likes turkey! Is it really the holidays without a bit of drama and comedy??

Product Review for Black Friday!

Hello friends!

Happy Thanksgiving Eve! I thought I would share a review of two beauty products I purchased from Sephora, just in case you want to do some shopping on Friday (that might be a good time, it happens to coincide with SEVERAL BIG sales!) LOL

I purchased the Norvina by Anastasia palette and Best of Nudes Mini Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick set (by Kat Von D). I like the bright colors of the Norvina Palette, it was 15% off, and has a holiday vibe. The mini lipstick set attracted me due to the colors, the mini sizes, and a bonus is that its a crème matte lipstick which does not dry the lips! Yay!

So first for the palette: I’ve tried it three times so far since Saturday and I just love it. It’s going to be great fun over the holidays, the colors are so pretty, and you all know I like sparkle. Here is what I did on my eyes (borrowed from Temptalia):

Inner tearduct: Dreamer, Inner lid: Summer, Middle of Lid: Love, Outer lid: Dazzling, Volatile, Crease: Eccentric, Deep Crease: Volatile, Above crease: Incense, Browbone: Base, Lower Lash line: Celestial and Dazzling. I also used Anastasia Brow Whiz in Ebony, and Urban Decay 24/7 in whiskey. These are such beautiful colors, I so recommend!!

Then with the mini lipstick set by Kat Von D: I was attracted to them because of the fun colors. I felt the need for new colors this winter (I love lipsticks btw) although most of the fun colors I’ve seen are a matte and super dry my lips. I have very sensitive skin and this must apply to my lips as well. If I wear a matte color, my lips are literally peeling by the end of the day. That’s not super cute if you know what I mean, so I’m careful about wearing matte colors. Then the lipstick themselves have a studded case and they are mini so they almost look like shell casings (maybe that’s the point?) but they fit in my mini bags perfectly. I wore Hawkind yesterday and it stayed on all day, didn’t smear over lunch, and didn’t dry out my lips so if you’re looking for a great creamy matte lipstick, this is for you! (in the picture today I’m wearing sanctuary)

I hope this has been a fun review that you can check on this Friday if you’d like! You know it’s the biggest shopping day LOL! (Both of these beauties are at Sephora!)

Thankful for a Broke Down TV

Hello friends!

I am just sitting down after a great dinner celebrating my daughter in law’s birthday.

We made a enchilada casserole and bought chips and salsa from our favorite restaurant.

(On the Home front our smart tv died and that is the biggest blessing this holiday!) 😆

We spent the whole evening talking and playing games (drinking a lot of Coke apparently 😂) and watching the grandchildren play with each other and the slime we got from Costco(they get along so well and have since they were way littles) they say the funniest things and I love to be around my family.

Three members weren’t here tonight and we missed them but we all get a chance again on Thursday (Thanksgiving)! Now normally I don’t much like Thanksgiving because I’m tired of cooking for days and doing dishes for hours (I would rather chat and play with my family) so this year we ordered our dinner (pick up Thursday around 11am) and the TV is dead!

That means prime time play time with family! We have games and crafts (with some treats) planned for all day and I can’t be more excited! Time with my family- that’s what I’m grateful this holiday. (That and our dead TV!) SCORE!

Who’d thought it!!?

The Whole Naked 2 Palette

Hello Friends!

I’ve been conflicted lately! I love Urban Decay’s Naked 2 palette, but struggle using the other colors besides my four go to colors: bootycall, tease, snakebite, and half baked. These are all great, amazing, and flattering colors BUT I want to make use of the rest of the palette. It’s a pretty penny to use only four out of 12 colors. I mean REALLY!

So…in getting ready for my Halloween Morticia makeup, I discovered a smoky eye I can use three more colors on my Naked 2 palette! Yay! I use foxy on my lid, pistol on the crease and brow bone and black out in a “V” at the corner of my eye (pistol and blackout also under my eye).

But to give you the whole experience, I’m linking my YouTube video of the tutorial for all to see what I did and you too can use up more Naked 2 colors! It’s a win win!
